9xr with sbus

Post by skquad »

Newbie question. If I'm using sbus am I still limited to 9 channels with the 9xr?

What Tx module and receiver are you using?

You didn't say what receiver you had. It's the one that either has an sbus output or not and thus determines what you can do or not, but AFAIK no DSM receivers have one.

I have both 8 and 9 channel orange receivers and both are sbus.

OK. Then the only answer is "try and see".
If I remember well the Orange module product page says it can send up to 14CH, but I never saw it actually confirmed by anyone, and nothing about the RX either.

So set the number of PPM channels higher, adjust PPM frame length accordingly, connect some sbus device to the RX and try for yourself.

The question in my mind though is - will the radio communicate more than 9 channels to the tx module? I know the tx will send 14 (or whatever it is, can't remember ghetto specs off the top of my head) but will it receive that many from a 9 channel radio?

With er9x (or openTx) it is not actually a 9-channel radio (er9x is the default firmware on a 9X). The firmware will send up to 16 channels to the Tx module. It is then a question of what the Tx module and the receiver will do.
