Re: OpenXsensor Configurator
Correct I am using a D6FR and I configured it as per this instruction.
So as João said I am using A2 for the vario. The sensitivity setting I was referring to is in the telemetry settings in ersky9x, I will change this to 50, do I need to set voltage range for the A2 port in the first telemetry screen. As long as the weather is fine in the morning I will test it in my Easy Glider Pro. I have defined a Custom Telemetry screen with the displayed items.
.
Are there any other setting I need to make

Re: OpenXsensor Configurator
OK I went flying this morning and I got no telemetry from the vario. Is there some way I can test this unit other than flying it in a model. It is no use driving around with it in my car as the land around here is as flat as a tack for some kilometres in any direction. Is there a setting I am missing in the TX. I am using the latest test version of ersky9x. Do I use vspd as was suggested in a previous post, instead of A2 which I am using now.
Tank you all for your patience while I attempt to get this working.

According to the picture above you are not receiving telemetry at all
Can you get RSSI and TSSI values other than zero when the receiver is ON?

In the telemetry setup menu, configure A2 to be RAW, not v, V or A, and set the range value to 255. When used for vario, the telemetry value should be around 128 when there is no vertical speed. It should increase if going up, and decrease if going down.

I am sorry Mike but where in the telemetry setup menu do I do that, I have been through all the telemetry menus and I can't find where to do that. I set the vario source to A2 on the last page of the telemetry menus.MikeB wrote:In the telemetry setup menu, configure A2 to be RAW, not v, V or A, and set the range value to 255. Re: OpenXsensor Configurator
First 'page' of the telemetry menu shows A1 and A2 with alarm settings. Go down until the number beside A2 is highlighted. If this number is 0.0, then you are scaling the A2 input to 0, so it won't display anything. The number on the right of this line shows the current telemetry value.
Press RIGHT to highlight the 'v'. Now press MENU to allow editing and change it to '-', this is RAW input. Press MENU to exit editing, the LEFT to get back to the number, MENU again to allow editing, then change the number to 255. EXIT back to the main display and see what A2 shows now.

Re: OpenXsensor Configurator
Thanks Mike that did the trick and is now displaying values between 112 and 130 depending on whether I raise or lower the model. I was unable to set the value exactly to 255 as at the level the numbers increment by 10 so I set it to 250.
Is this documented somewhere, as all the documentation I have read does not cover this situation, or if it does I have missed it. If it is not it may be a candidate for the upgraded documentation.

Re: OpenXsensor Configurator
That's odd and a bug, I'll look into it. It is something to do with displaying the value and an automatic scaling vo voltages less than 10.
Keep on incrementing the value past 250, eventually it sorts out and goes to 255 where it stops. This is the value you want.
Alternatively, with 'v' showing, set the value to 25.5v, then change the 'v' to '-'.
It probably isn't documented fully, setting the range of A1 or A2 for voltage or current measurement is so you have to guess. I think most users are using the "vspd" value from the digital data.

I will put that on my list for when we update the er9x manual. Ersky9x is similar in many aspects including this one..

Re: OpenXsensor Configurator
Now that I have this one working I will build a couple more for my D8R-ll plus Rx's one for myself and one for a mate. Where would we be without guys like you, João and Nigel. I am grateful for all your help, now to dive back into the documentation to check on voice alarms. and a few other things.MikeB wrote: Alternatively, with 'v' showing, set the value to 25.5v, then change the 'v' to '-'.
Did this and it worked like a charm, thanks again Mike.

Re: OpenXsensor Configurator
Good that you got it working Dave
For the D8R-II Plus maybe it is better you use the serial communication between the oXs and the receiver instead of the A2 Port. And you could use the A2 and A1 for something else
For voice alarms depending on if you updated the ersky9x to the latest or not, you could have a look at the er9x manual. Latest versions of ersky9x have a few more features but are very similar to er9x.
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6473
Look at the voice alarms chapter. The difference is that on ersky9x you can also use voice files with letters (words) as file name, instead of only file numbers. The rest is basically the same.
But anyway, that should be discussed in another thread. If you have problems please open a topic or find a suitable one..
Have fun

Re: OpenXsensor Configurator
The display problem for A1 and A2 when configured as '-' (raw) has an easy fix. Just make sure you go to the 'real 255 value currently by incrementing it until it stops at 255.

Can I get the altitude displayed as well, and if so how do I get it to display.

Re: OpenXsensor Configurator
In order to get altitude, you have to use a receiver that accept a digital signal and you have to connect oXs to the Rx using this signal instead of using A2.
You have to modify the oXs_config.h file too.
In the config I made for you, you have

You must insert a line in order to get altitude too:#define SETUP_DATA_TO_SEND \
DEFAULTFIELD , VERTICAL_SPEED , 1 , 1 , 0

Re: OpenXsensor Configurator
Dave, it is very easy, but for viewing altitude you need the D8R-II Plus and as explained above, use the serial communication by connecting the oXs to the RX port of the receiver.
Then select "Vspd" for the vario and program a custom screen with "Alt". You could also display the "Vspd" on the custom screen. You should now see both telemetry values working on that screen.
But you need to configure the oXs to send the data over serial.

OK, got that I will break out one of my d8r-ll plus Rx's. Do I need to modify the wiring of the vario or can I just connect it to the serial port.

Re: OpenXsensor Configurator
That will depend on which pin is configured for the serial communication I guess.. Default is pin4 I think..

Re: OpenXsensor Configurator
Hi guys,
I know it's been a long time since last OXS Configurator update but the wait is finished
The version I just released is probably not what you would expect but I guarantee it's a good start !
I think the most valuable new features should be the check updates things:
- when you launch the Configurator, it checks if a new version is available and shows a button which open your browser to the download page.
- check updates button in the up-left corner of the window.
The other very good news (at least for me) is that there is only 1 zip file for all platforms supported (Linux, windows and mac osx), don't forget to look at the readme file.
Let's go: https://github.com/openXsensor/openXsen ... _Downloads
The facts:
- Supports OpenXsensor v3.0
- Compatible with oXs v3.1 to v4.0 (some new features missing)
- Multiplex protocol
- OXS measurements dynamic list
- Change log in "About" message box
- New "Updates ?" button (up-left part of the window)
- New preset file format
The plans:
- Sequencer editor/simulator
- oXs v7 compatibility (perhaps with v5 intermediate)
I'll be back
Bye.

Re: OpenXsensor Configurator
Good news Davx,
Fine that a new version of configurator is available and that development continue.
For future developments, I suggest to directly go to oXs V7 (upgrades, bug fixes, ... are done only on this version, there are quite many differences in config file compared to prior version; it seems quite stable now).

Re: OpenXsensor Configurator
I see that it is possible to set the Vcc voltage in the configurator. When an ATMEGA328 runs at less than 5v one has to derate the oscillator speed. Most 3.3v arduino boards have a 8MHz clock rather than a 16MHz which is common for 5v operation. Does the configurator tool make any timing adjustments in the code if using other than a 16MHz clock?
