No sounds

Post by CpTChucky »

I did something dumb. I was messing around with my turnigy 9x with a 9xtreme board. I accidentally left it on and was out of the house for the rest of the day. I wen to mess with it today and noticed that the battery was dead. So I charged the battery. When the battery was charged I installed the battery into the transmitter. I then turned it on and I didn't get the "Welcome to Ersky9x" I was also not getting any of the other sounds. I got on the forum and looked somethings up. I listened to hear if there was a hiss coming out of the speaker and there wasn't. I also took the transmitter apart and looked at the speaker connection and it was good. So I don't know what's wrong. I will sometimes get sounds but most of the time I don't. Could I have blown the speaker out when the inactivity alarm or the low battery warning went off when I forgot to turn my transmitter off? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

From the main screen go UP LONG, then LEFT a few times to get to the SD STAT display.
Does this have "Present" and "Ready" visible?
If you start the radio in bootloader mode, then plug the USB cable in, can you see the SD card OK? If so, can you see the .wav files in the voice/system directory?

I did the SD Stat thing and it shows present and ready. I will connect it to my computer and see if I can see the sd card later.

I have been flipping switches where I have a voice programed and it is works sometimes (not very oten) but sounds a little garbled and not clear like it used to. So I think that the voices are on the sd card still.

Also I am not getting any beeps when I move the trim switches.

Check your speaker. Measure it's resistance with a multimeter set to read ohms. I bet the speaker blew up with the inactivity alarm. In my opinion the 9xtreme should ship with a 2 Watt speaker. They are cheap though

Thanks.

How many ohms should it be? Where would I get a new speaker?

Took the speaker out and figured out it should read 8 ohms. Put the meter on it and it's not showing any ohms, so I'm guess the speaker is dead.

That one is 28mm, a bit smaller than the original 9xtreme speaker that has a diameter of 40mm.
but i don't why it wouldn't work. I don't know about its quality of course..

Here you can see the one I've installed on my 9xtreme radio, but i don't know how easy it is to find it where you live. I bought it here in Germany.

I tore apart one of my son's toys that he doesn't use and took the speaker out of it. Unsoldered the wires from the bad speaker and then soldered it to the speaker from the toy and hooked it to the 9xtreme board and now I get all my sounds. The speaker isn't the best quality but at least I know what the problem is. May need to order another, higher quality speaker to replace the toy speaker.

Thanks everyone that helped.

Glad you got it working.. :)
Ah, just remembered. If you go to Radio Setup / Alarms, you will see that there is a volume setting for the inactivity alarm. It might help to not destroy your son's speaker ;) :D
