Help With fysky Xsr reciver bind??

I have smartie parts board for my turnigy 9x with ersky 9x software on.
Two questions tired to bind to transmitter with no success get soild green and red light. (with frsky XSR receiver).
First do i have to setup the transmitter to bind to it through software and is the firmware on the receiver the wrong type?
Plus how do i update firmware with the xsr receiver software is their any way to do this on my turnigy 9x.
I have 2 D4R-2 receivers that are working at the moment with no problem.
Any help be awesome cheers.
