Other sound boards and 9XR

Post by barjunk »

Someone suggested that you might be able to use a different sound board than the megasound?

I found this at sparkfun:

wav - http://www.sparkfun.com/products/12000/
mp3 - http://www.sparkfun.com/products/11029/
speaker - https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10722

and wondered if it would work.

It is more expensive than the megasound, but I was just curious if it would have any issues.

I like the wav card with the possibility of multitrack playing and setting different volumes for each track. They don't say how many files it can read though. The megasound reads until 512 I think. The mp3 card from sparkfun only 256 making it not good for this application. Also using these cards would need the radio firmware to be changed, I think..
The speaker is not powerful enough. The board outputs 2W and the speaker is 0.25W. It will blow up. Ask me how I know it ;)

1000 files.

Looks good, but would need the firmware's sound driver to be rewritten indeed as it doesn't use the same protocol etc.
