Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
I have looked everywhere guys but I can't find an answer to this problem. I am trying to maiden my HK Retro, but the radio isn't moving the servos. I just flashed my radio with a Smartiparts board and the latest ER9x software, plus I calibrated the sticks and pots (I'm sort of a newbie here) Do I need to configure MODE 2 first, before it will work? I also created a model name but that's it. Please help, there's no wind outside and I'd love to fly this morning.

what RF module are you using? did you bind the receiver to the module?

Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
I will try that now. Does the bind plug go anywhere in the receiver, or where it says "bindbat"?
Thank you
Thank you
Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
I am using the Turnigy receiver that came with the 9Xradio. I have bound the receiver and still nothing. Does the firmware configure "MODE 2" automatically, or do I need to do that myself? I am using the latest ER9X firmware from March 2014.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
You need to set mode yourself. But even if that is wrong you'll get servos moving anyway if receiver is bound correctly and you have the default mixes entered in the mixer screen.
Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
Mixer screen? I must check that out first I think.
Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
I must admin that I hadn't used the radio in a long time and I plugged the battery in both ways, so I don't know if I broke something or not. It does work and beeps, is there any other way to know if I burned it up? I use a LIPO transmitter pack from HK.

The center pin is positive. Both outer pins are ground. So as long as you have a three pin plug with center positive, you can't go wrong.
I do hope you have not tried to plug a 2 pin plug into the three pin socket! That's like playing Russian roulette with half the chambers loaded.

No, it is a 3 pin plug. That's why it never hurt anything undoubtedly. I just tried a new rcvr and still nothing. I don't get it.
Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
Can someone tell how to set the mixs up? Maybe that's the problem?

Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
When I first turn on the radio, it says 10.9 (which is remaining volts of battery) and then it has "FneTTm." Shouldn't that read PPM instead? Does anyone know this? I'm sorry, but I just want to figure out if the radio is bad or not.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
No, Fne is "Fine" trim stepping.
TTm is Throttle Trim.
Use the UP and DOWN buttons to get the main screen showing 8 horizontal bars.
When you move the sticks, do you see dark bars moving?
Mike.

Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
Did it all work before you flashed it to ER9X?
Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
Yes the bars move, well they aren't bars but now they are numbers and yes they go up and down
Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
I just flashed to the latest version of the firmware. Mike updated it yesterday in fact. This is getting frustrating. I'm thinking this TX went bad when I added the smartiepart board possibly .
Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
I really appreciate everyone's help but this radio may be bad somehow. Also, does anyone know if there is a recent 'how to" guide so when I buy my next radio, I'll be able to navigate this excellent software I flash it too?
Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
If something went bad was when you reversed the battery polarity. I'm surprised your radio still works if you really reversed it.
The stock module doesn't like reverse polarity at all. It might have died. Do you know someone you could borrow a module from to test?

Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
That means you have some mixes set OK.
Assuming you are using the Tx module and receiver that came with the 9X, what procedure did you use to bind. It should be:
Connect the bind plug to the receiver and switch on. The receiver should have a rapidly flashing LED.
Switch on the transmitter while pressing the bind button on the module, the receiver LED should go solid on.
Switch both transmitter and receiver off.
Remove the bind plug from the receiver.
Switch both transmitter and receiver on.
The receiver LED should now be on and servos should respond.
Mike.

Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
Possible problems with bind process:
1 . Not waiting long enough before releasing the bind button on the transmitter. A few seconds is all it takes for the process to start, when you can release the button. after that it sometimes takes 20-30 seconds to finish.
2. Having the transmitter and receiver close together. Separate them by at least 3 feet, maybe 5.
3. Being exposed to strong WiFi. Don't do it next to a wireless router.
Possible reasons for the module not transmitting:
1. Not plugged in properly.
2. Broken antenna connection
3. Faulty module (e.g., one that has been operated for some time without the antenna and has burned out as a result).
Or it could be a defective receiver. Do you have another you can try?
Hope this helps.

Re: Just flashed 9x to ER9x and not working!
Hi Mike,
I finally got my rig working. The reason it wasn't working is because I was putting in the leads into the receiver backwards. Once I turned them around, it all came to life. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions to try and help me, I cannot thank you enough. What a wonderful community of RC pilots you all are. I hope I can return the favor someday in here as well.
