Thank you Magi István for fast delivery!
I hope to help participants in the discussion

And now my setup Megasound PCB in Turnigy 9XR
NOT WORKING =(

LED screen shows nothing and does not light up
When i press the trimmer buttons, I hear only clicks in my new speaker
please help me!

I already double check the wiring and solder point for continuing , short and voltage using multimeter

I did

1) Place the speakers
2) Unsolder the original beeper and remove Q1 transistor http://blog.naver.com/azure93andy/120194875155

3) connect Power + , GND, and beep sound BP9 with this reference image to RF Module http://openrcforums.com/forum/download/file.php?id=5821

Question 1:
another image show other connection on BP9 - somewhere near Q1 i see is same trace, right?
Question 2
what is strange point Power + and - in image http://blog.naver.com/azure93andy/120194875155
this is just power and possible to get it in RF Module like previous?

Remove R72 resistor and put P1-1 to PB7
Question 3:
two way possible atmega pin 17 or R72 right pin?

Connect DO D1 pin (not easy with grand father soldering iron yep!)

remove LED pin cut connector and solder this wires direct to BL+ BL-?
Question 4: This is right?

Problem with 9x solved - bad contact with GND (two metal contacts to RF plate - (put some glue to screws)

Buy more megasound PCB for 9XR - hope it works in future after change the 9XR mainboard

if you dont have good preciese soldering iron - dont solder D0-D4 -smd is to small and gentle! I buy USB Soldering iron from rexant and chineise magnifying glasses - good

Yep, would indicate something else, like the "normal" ground wires on the connector being badly connected or broken.
I wouldn't fly with that until you solved the underlying issue.

Recently I replaced the supplied speaker with the same one that Scott has used with the Taranis ---> viewtopic.php?f=97&t=4752 The results were not that astounding. The bass response had improved considerably (who needs the haptic modification) yet the overall HF level had reduced by a fair amount, which gave what I perceived as a reduced volume level. Turning up the volume resulted in distortion. :(

One quick modification was done by lifting pin 6 on the LM386 and feeding that from the +V input to the Megasound card, effectively bypassing the 78L05. Now the feed to the amplifier is around 10 Volts (using an 8 cell NiMh pack) and now I have to turn the volume down a fair amount and the output is loud with no distortion. :) This blows any standard Taranis out of the water sound level wise. The 9X vibrates to the bass notes wonderfully. :)

I should add at this point that the supplied speaker is well matched and (efficiency and power handling) to the Megasound card and I have no complaints about the original setup at all.

I need a refresher on how to upgrade the Megasound sd card audio files via USB?
It been a while. At the time I added a servo connector cable to the Megasound card. Do I a USBasp programmer into the Megasound board and what program. I reread the forum posts but would like to get the steps down and printed out this time.
My original 9x has a new owner and he'll be reading up on it all here. I have enough parts to build a new full 9x megasound Frsky radio. I'll also need to flash the megasound FW on the second board I bought and never upgraded.
Maybe the latest audio files for the sd card Jsha? I've always used your good ones.
Thanks everyone for your help.
Too many projects going on at the same time hasn't helped.

I think the megasound board you bought can only be updated by a RS232 adapter like the one used to program the frsky receivers.
Turn the radio on with a switch or throttle in the wrong position. This will prevent the radio from starting and the megasound board will be waiting for the serial.
In eepe, go to the burn configuration menu and make sure the programmer is set to arduino and that you have the correct COM port. Then on the burn menu you have an option to start the serial. A new window will open and you can upload the voice files..
I think this is the right procedure as I also didn't do it for quite a while ;) :)

Thanks. I'll have to really check this out again. It was so easy last year when Mike came up with the FW to to it.
The new owner of my very nice 9X is happy to flash the sd directly but I want him to use the USB feature Mike added to make it much nicer.
Fortunately the Megasound 9x topic has a lot of info in it.
I'm just happy that one of my modified 9x radios has a good home. It's almost brand new.

And if you use Pad 7 and 8 instead of 5 and 6 a USB to TTL adaptor like e.g. this one will do instead of RS232.

Hello HC1969, what is the difference between V4 and V3?
I have a V3 and just ordered your V4.

Thanks in advance,

Only Fuse setup (the V4 starts more stable resonator).
The distinction is mainly what I need.

Re: Installation of MegaSound 9X

Hello All,
I completed my 3rd MegaSound installation. This one was the first that I used the HC1969 Model.
That being said, it wasn't difficult to assemble, find and location everything.

The Result
-at this point, I have sound when I trim up and down with all trims
-I have no LCD working, no LED Backlight either.

I know that the MegaSound setting needs to be enabled for the BL to work but the Screen shows nothing

I have traced the power into and MegaSound9x and it is getting power, I am hearing sound.. I think that perhaps the problem lies in D0-D4 but the wires/lines between the MegaSound9x and the D0-D4 are mapped correctly and are making contact.

Before I start to tear it apart, any suggestions from anyone that has had similar?

Thanks.

What sounds do you hear? Only the beeps from the main board or sound files from the SD card?
If only the beeps, then on the TX main board check the resistors between the data lines (D0-D3) and the atmega.
They tend do die (get open) when getting too hot while soldering.

btw: enabling megasound can also be made via eePe (but the display should work anyway).

I'd certainly inspect the D0-D3 connections VERY carefully. These are the data to the LCD some a short between them would cause it not to work.

Certain sounds, like the trim beeps, still come from the processor, they a just passed directly to the amplifier on the Megasound board.
If the backlight is not coming on either, then this also indicates a problem with the data lines, check D3 in particular.

Attention! Is not enough just to D0-D3 line connection!
Must have for all! D0 - D3 and PB7 !!! (and of course all the power lines)!

Hello, I have all the Connections, checked and double check, resoldered the D0-D3 including the PB7 and moved the power to the location on the switch and not directly to the CAP.
Interestingly now, there is a humming noise when connected to the Switch, where as when it was connected to the CAP it was cleaner? ;-)

Nonetheless, I get no LCD and I have tested the Resisters there are working and are all reading the same values top to bottom on the D0-D3.

Question, I know on my other MegaSound that I created that I had to put a 470k Resistor on Beeper Pin?

Any other suggestions that might be the cause?
I did program the MegaSound successfully with v4 via the download you provided, that worked fine and it recognized the board, get the Signature and updated the application.

One note, like my other Radio and MegaSound HomeGrown, I am running off a 8.4V Life Battery Pack, does the new MegaSound require more?
Regulator Mod.jpg
I am getting +8.3V to the Power side of the MegaSound Board.
