Have you used the latest 1.05? 1.03 had an issue indeed...

But.. did I hear well? An IT professional with no backup??? How can that be! ;)
Didn't you have the automatic backup enabled in C9X by any chance, with backup files you've forgotten about somewhere on your drive?

But yeah - I ALWAYS backup my eeprom before doing any flashing, after any major change on my model settings, and every few flying days.

Ouch.
This is a bit of a wakeup call.
When I started out with 9x I made configuration backups all the time to avoid losing settings. But during my numerous flashes I have not experienced any data loss at all, with the odd exception of a mix or two that had gotten screwed up in translation. This has made me a bit sloppy. I will start making backups again from now on.

Likewise...

But I have never had a problem and have gotten a bit slack with the backup.

In this case.. I actually made a backup of sorts.

I downloaded my epprom via companion... but did not save it. Just left it in ram.

Then when I flash... windows said 'this program has stopped working'.

And that was it! Lost my backup and the settings on the radio :-(

So the result is many many months of data lost.

I still think there should be an option in companion to 'auto backup'. to a specified folder every time we update.

It really crashed during the flash operation? Or during an EEPROM conversion? Because we have found a bug there ... You should really have a quick look in your TEMP directory!

Yes, in case of program crash the eeprom file that was downloaded from the radio during the backup process will still be there in your temp folder. Just do NOT attempt another read before fetching it back or it will be overwritten...

Even if you read it again, the backups are postfixed with the date and time, they should never be overwritten!

I meant the file in the temp folder, not the one created by the auto backup (as he didn't have that enabled)

Kilrah has saved me!

In my system temp file was a file 'temp.bin'.

A sweet and lovely backup of all my models!!

Thank you Kilrah!!

Rob I feel your pain. I did that early on so I started downloading the mixes first and saving every time I did/do a flash.
Of course this doesn't help much does it.

An auto backup is a good idea if it could be added.

I think I'm going to back up my w7 machine today, it's been a while.

The function is there, you only need to enable it!

I actually found a bug with it.

In companion there is an option to backup before flashing....
Backups... you only understand how important they are when you loose your data

Indeed, I just set it to a subfolder of c9x's install location and it doesn't save anything...
