Change antenna on D8R-II

Post by nickxab »

Hello team !
Long time no see ! :D

I have a Fr-Sky D8R-II Plus receiver and somehow i managed to cut bot antenna cables, the tips of the cables to be exact.
Some days ago i installed this receiver into a gas boat and i noticed that after 10-15 meters it had no signal so i wanna change antennas.
The current state of the receiver:

How it was from the factory:

I don't know much about antennas
Is this the problem that lose signal ? Should i replace the cables ? I have cables from a laptop wifi antenna it's almost 0.5m long.
Does it matter if i solder longer cable ?

Thanks in advance guys ! :D

Yes, that is the range problem!
The antenna cables are (very thin) coax. What you need to do is strip the outer black cover and the outer copper screen to leave the inner conductor with the clear insulation over it. This is a tuned length so you need 33mm stripped.

Thanks for the reply Mike :D
Oh i see ! I have one cable that's 29 cm. I can make 2 of them (18cm each). Will i have to strip also 33mm or it changes according to length ?

Always 33mm, this is the tuned length bit.
