XJT with X4R & FLVS s.port telemetry

Post by SkudMissile »

I’ve just purchased an FrSky FLVS smart port lipo voltage sensor to go with my recently upgraded to XJT module and X4R receiver.
I currently have a diy voltage divider wired to the analogue port on the x4r which is working fine and I have all my RX and svr readings working fine but I cannot seem to get anything from the FLVS on the 9XR pro.
I have tried all of the settings one by one in the telemetry menu and even tried com 2 with a diy external link cable to the futaba port but still no joy.
Any ideas what I’m missing here?
I’ve added cTot, Cel1 and Cel2 to my telemetry screen but they just all stay at zero.

Have you set the protocol to "XJT"?

Hi Mike,
Settings as follows:
Internal PPM
Enable ticked
External XJT
Proto XJT
RxNum 4
Detect telem auto
Type D16
Chans 8
Double rate not ticked
PB14 heartbeat not ticked
Failsafe not set (it is though via the receiver button)
Country Ame (also tried Eur, I’m in UK)
1st channel 1
Bind vet 256

Telemetry:
UsrProto FrHub (also tried Frsky originally)
Bt telemetry off
Telecom port 1 (tried 2)
Com port invert none (tried all options)
FAS offset 0.0
Com2 func telemetry (tried other options)
Com2 baud rate auto
Com1 baud rate auto

I’ve power cycled everything after each change I’ve tried and I’ve also re-bound several times.
I have control and the standard telemetry just nothing from this smart port sensor.
Could it be a firmware issue?
Both XJT and the X4R’s are new from T9Hobbysport with supposedly latest firmware

UsrProto should be FrSky (not FrHub).
What is the LED on the FLVSS doing?
What is the display on the FLVSS showing?
Do you have a module installed internally? If not I suggest disabling the internal module, you probably don't need it enabled anyway unless you are using both modules at the same time!

I don’t have an internal module and I’ve just set that to disabled.
I had already changed the UsrProto back to FrSky.

Finally seem to have got somewhere and it appears to be an issue with the latest r223 firmware??
I decided to flash back to my original firmware from when I got the transmitter, I had r218 and r219t_music.
I flashed the r218 and then went into the protocol and changed to PPX then bound and it worked! Upgraded to r219t_music and it still worked:

The next latest file I could find was r221 and this now works as well but looks closer to the latest firmware:

And the telemetry screen is finally as I want it:

Working!

So the only thing now is to figure out what’s wrong with r223 - I’ve tried flashing to that from r221 and it just stops working again, go back and voila it all works.

Here is r222 for the 9XR-PRO. Perhaps you could try this to help locate when the problem started.

OK, so this is the "new" FLVS-ADV that supports up to 8 cells.
I've just checked r223 with an older FLVSS and this works OK.

To help find why r223 isn't showing this sensor, a "Raw Log File" would be useful to me (see this post: viewtopic.php?f=84&t=13859&p=156269&hil ... le#p156269 to see how to create one).

Thanks for posting the firmware, just tried it and all working still. Didn’t need to re-bind after flashing either.

Will try and do the hex dumps for both r222 and r223 and will post back

Hi Mike,
Hopefully I have followed the instructions correctly, should be a raw hex log file attached in zip format for the same model under both r222 (working) and r223 (non-working).
And yes you are correct, the model of my FLVSS does appear to be an 8 cell unit (only purchased last week so I guess it will be the latest versions.)
Appreciate all the help here, I've already ordered another X4R and two more voltage monitors so I can setup my 3 offroad cars as ready to run without having to swap anything (as they all use separate batteries).
Will be looking to get the last car (on-road) and my quadcopter also upgraded to the later setup with these voltage monitors as well in the not too distant future so it would be great if you can work out why it isn't working on r223 ;)

OK, I now know what the problem is. I'll fix it in the next day or so.

Test version posted on the test versions thread, first post.
It may even handle all 8 cells!
I don't have a new FLVS so can't test that.
