Help for first time X7 + R9M user

Hi, completely new to this RC stuff and I can't get my radio gear functioning. I have Taranis X7, R9M module and R9 Slim receiver.
1. I've wired up the power to the receiver and wired in a test servo on channel 1
2. Inserted the R9M module into the transmitter
3. On the X7 I've opened the first "model"
4. Scrolled down and disabled "Internal RF"
5. Set External RF Mode to R9M access
6. Scrolled down to Receiver1
7. Selected Bind. Annoying beeping starts
8. Power up receiver while holding bind button
9. R9 Slim appears on transmitter. Press enter.
10. Get bind successful message.
11. Repower receiver and transmitter
12. Receiver flashing red which apparently means its in failsafe mode. Moving transmitter sticks doesnt move servo
Have read and re-read the instructions but I don't get what to do :/
