All pots of all gimbals are screwed up? Even if they're not known for reliability that would still be strange... Did you try connecting them on another axis? Might be the radio board that has an issue.

What are the values on the ANA screen (the 4 digit hexadecimal values) for the pots?

Check the wiring VERY carefully, make sure you have 0 and 5 volts on the outer two pot connections (actual POT, not the PCB), and see if the centre pin moves properly between them.

Someone else had a problem with replacement pots (9XR) and found the wire colours were not sensible, so had wired the pots wrongly giving similar problems.

Mike.

FYI
I also remove the metal V from the board. It was there as a counterpoise (RF antenna system ground plane) for the longer AC wavelength tx frequencies before 2.4g. All DC grounds are carried through with actual wires and not dependent on a pressure connection from the mating of the case halves.
I found the V was just getting in the way.

@ Kilrah, so basically I had the original gimbals that came with the brand new radio. I noticed that one of them was really funky and i changed it out. That was fixed by doing so.
Then i was trying to fix the Aileron via Mode2 Configuration and noticed that it would not function properly. I would disconnect the 3-wire leads and test another axis on another gimbal via test leads. hence the 3 sets of values from x/y of one gimbal and the other axis of the existing gimbal on the same AILERON Axis.
Then I just tried the Taranis Gimbal and it worked fine. So I suspect the wiring is okay as I am doing it the same way with the other gimbals.

@Mike, I will try it again before i upgrade the gimbals and test that out.. the values i got were from the ANA screen but not the HEX values. I will do that shortly when I get a chance. Hate it when work gets in the way.

Hello All,

I started to read/setup the ANA numbers and Voltage between the Gimbals/Pots... and just decided that it took the better part of a day to do all of this including yesterday.. and the Taranis Gimbal just worked... its clear that the wiring was not incorrect as it never worked properly OOTB and I just followed the wiring along photographs of my mods as I document everything. These Radios have been sitting, they could have just got oxidized? I could have overheated the Pots from soldering... I noticed rust on my power switch and swapped that with one of my spares. Who knows?

When I put in the Taranis Gimbals, 45 minutes of effort in total.. it just worked...
So I will have a second radio running ER9x (don't get me wrong, now I will just have two) with Taranis Gimbals, I will keep looking to see if OpenTx will support the Stick Reverse Switches in the firmware in the near future. Unlikely, but one can hope. ;-)

Thats good enough for me....
Agagin, thanks for the help and responses... I have a build ahead of me and just need the radio to work... ;-)

Salute!

p.s. I have the Gimbals outside the radio and happy to do testing later when i don't have a build ahead of me and measure it all out. ;-)

P.S. @HC1969. The supplied speaker and MegaSound work perfectly together, such a crisp clear sound, no hum at all. Many thx!

Strongly reduced the demand for MegaSound 9x sound card, which is why the present series is likely to be the last.
For anyone interested, arrange the time of purchase!

Hello I am very impressed with the forum and everyone knowledge on the megasound 9x. I need some help and I hope this goes smooth so I don't get caught. here it goes my son has been asking for the megasound for a few months but it was out of stock so I got a email that they were ready to ship again so I bought one for my son for his birthday and I want to install it for him while he is at school and put his radio back without him knowing so when he gets home I can ask him to go fly and see his reaction when he turns it on. I just know he will be so happy and surprised. but here it is he has a turnigy 9x with er9x upgrade and a smarty parts 2.4 installed as I am looking at the forum I see bites and pieces of installing it with what he has. I real want to see if some one can load or send me installation info I one location so I can get up early and grab his radio to do the install and make all the modifications and have it finished by 3;15pm eastern time. also I would need some info on how I load the voice to the SD card he is a quad copter nut and I'm looking for quad copter files to load or how to make changes so I can add a few of my own. I have eepe on my computer do I use that to load firmware and voice file or do I just install the SD card in the computer and load them if someone can PM me ill be happy to pass on my number to call me to help me do this I would hate to have his radio apart and him come home or it would be my luck he would come home and ask to go fly and his radio be missing and apart. pleas help I want to make him a very happy birthday boy.
thank you
PS
I looked for you tube videos for the mega sound with smarty parts 2.4 board and can't find any install /build videos. I could use some info and some pictures on the install I can solder real good pretty knowledgeable on electronics and how things work I did install a gimbal knob from ps2 on the back of his radio to control a 2 axis gimbal for his FPV flights.
again please help
thank you.

Only Fuse setup. New resonator (12MHz) = new Fuse setup. It does not affect the V3 versions.

MegaSound FW V4.0 (with bootloader)
Use USBASP for update.

I'm not sure how to add the MS board with the SP 2.4 present. We need a connection to pin 17 of the processor. I believe on the SP board this controls the backlight circuit. The MS board uses pin 17 as both an input and an output, I don't know what effect the SP board has on this.

Mike.

Hi guys. First, I have to say that I have ZERO knowledge of the MegaSound project.

On the SP board, pin 17 simply activates the gate that turns the backlight circuitry on/off. Using it for a different purpose should be just fine, but it will also engage that circuitry any time the line switches high/low. *IF* the MegaSound project accomodates a backlight, then I would suggest ignoring the SP's backlight circuitry and connect your backlight to the MegaSound. With the backlight not connected to the SP's LED output, there should be no consequence. I might suggest, just to be on the safe side, to NOT use the 6-pin jumper cable on the SP board [then no power at all would go to the backlight circuitry] but then you'll have to make a ground connection manually between the SP and the 9x because that cable is how the programmer and target (9x) have a shared ground. Older 9x's didn't necessarily require the shared ground, but its always a good idea. Alternatively, you can slow the programming down (using the -B switch in Extra Arguments) and again the shared ground shouldn't be necessary (but always recommended). Although, I don't think any of that's really necessary if the current draw (LED) isn't present.

The MegaSound board does support a backlight.
s_mack: Is there an obvious place on the SP board to pick up the pin 17 connection?

Mike.

thank you for producing the Megasound9x board.. you gave people the chance of having their 9x radios speaking without having to go into building one themselves. ;) Probably most of us couldn't do it.. So, thank you again. And also to Mike and Oliver for developing it.. Not forgetting all the other people that contributed with board designs, like HaGeHa and Mbanzi. Sorry if I forgot someone..

João

EDIT: I hope you kept some boards in case people still want them.. I'm sure some will still ask for it.. People are still buying the old 9XR. At least the forum is quite active. Not sure about the 9x..

Of course you can.. What do you want to do? Also, what firmware you have in your radio, and what version? Did you do the telemetry mod?
