Turnigy 9x module advise

Post by Heath »

I've got a Naze32 flight controller and I want to use several features that requires the receiver use PPM. I've got a Turnigy 9X with a stock radio which does not have PPM output on the receiver. I've looked through all the modules on Hobby King's web site and it's all a little confusing. Can someone tell me what my cheapest option for adding PPM capability would be while still having 8 channels?

The 9x will have PPM output if you flash it witz er9x or opentx.
But that is not quick and easy done. You have to do the flash mod.
You will find lots of help if you google 'flash mod'.

Hi Heath,
I believe the stock Turnigy 9x Radio with the stock firmware uses PPM with its stock Transmitter and Receiver .

If not already, I would suggest flashing er9x firmware to your stock Turnigy 9x Radio.

If applicable, you will need to obtain some hardware to do this and solder wires to the 9x main control board
inside your stock Radio.
Also look at FrSky Transmitter Modules DJT - JR Transmitter Telemetry Module
and the FrSky D8R-XP- 8/8 Channel Receiver With CPPM to go with it. See at: (http://www.alofthobbies.com/)

The point is that he needs a receiver that will put out CPPM for the flight controller. Not a question of how the module gets its input, except that the module has to support the receiver. As noted above, anything you do requires flashing to Er9x, extremely powerful firmware constantly being improved.

So, for example a hack module from a DX4e is a very good solution if 6 channels is enough and you want DSMX (it uses serial rather than PPM connection withing the transmitter). It will drive an Orange R615X to put out CPPM. Or the Lemon 8 channel PPM receiver with satellite will provide a more robust link while outputting CPPM. For the full 8 channels, the OrangeRX DSM2/DSMX module is the best solution.

FrSky would be the preferred answer for many people. The DJT module and D8R or D4R would do very nicely.

The frsky D4R-II is a small 4 channel receiver, but it is capable of outputting 8 PPM channels.
