precision of voice spoken values

Post by Tr3TopFlyer »

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and new to OpenTX and Taranis. I just got my Taranis on Saturday. The learning curve has been pretty short due to some of the excellent video tutorials by Scott Page. I did have a problem flashing FW from my win7 64 machine but using an old computer was able to get it to work. I'll troubleshoot the problem with my win7 64 computer another time.

My question today is this. I've set up my momentary contact switch, SH, to speak A1 (flight pack voltage using the FBVS connected to the X6R rx) and RSSI. It works great except she only says the voltage with 1/10th precision instead of 1/100th. So if the display shows 11.38v she says it is 11.3v. Is there a way to get the precision to 1/100ths? Thanks.

I think I would question the 11.38 in the first place. As I understand it, the voltage is measured by an 8-bit analog to digital converter. If you have a 4:1 divider (max of 13.2 volts), then the measurement is only to about 0.05 volts precision. If the divider is larger, the precision is even worse.

Yes, it makes little sense having more precision. Especially as usually when your motor is running the 2nd digit would just jump continuously.

Ah I see your point still it would be nice to know if it is 11.3 or 11.38v.

I do recall a long while back that Opentx did have a voice output of two decimal places. It was a real pain in the backside.

I can understand what you are saying. I do agree with Mike. The error of around 0.05 Volts from the A-D converter combined with any other errors created by changing current draws giving yet more errors to the true battery voltage makes that second digit erroneous and misleading.

That's what you think - in practice it just makes no sense unless you want to listen to numbers instead of flying :)

Gosh Kilrah! Some pilots like to have music playing from their Taranis while flying 8-) .. One wonders what will be next. :?

No problem with music, I actually loved flying with music and have to do it again... but numbers are boring :P

Too much information while flying is a real pain. If you want precise numbers, log the data and analyze afterwards.

That's why some are pilots, and some are not. . ;) :D

Sorry to reopen this thread but in fact for me with the FrSky SP-FLVS - Smart Port Lipo Voltage Sensor witch is more accurate than the divider the second digit spoken would make sens for me. There is a big difference between 3.89 and 3.80 65% and 40% of course I can wait until it says 3.7 but since we don't know how close of 3.6 this is more risky. I hope on a next firmware at least the option will come back.
