Post by x4FF3 »

Hi,

i got a new 9XR today. put in a OrangeRX DSM2 module. then i flashed er9x to it (with module plugged in). after that the module does nothing...could the module die through flashing?

Did the combination work before you flashed the TX with Er9x?

I think that module works with ppm. Did you change the output protocol to DSM?

yep it worked with the original firmware. it beeped at bootup of the 9XR. output with er9x is PPM. tried different settings for PPM. no luck.

Stupid question.. did you create a simple model in er9x?
I mean are there 4 mixes in the mix menu? or is the mixer completely empty?

so, i did a little research. the orangerx module uses a Atmega32D4-AU. and these modules can be reprogrammed with this tool: http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__ ... odule.html

so could it be, that when i flash the 9xr, there is output on the PPM-pin?

That tool only seems to change the channel ordering, it shouldn't completely wipe the unit. The PPM output will go high-impedance, and if HK didn't include a pull-up resistor in their module then the voltage could change high to low at random. This still shouldn't put the module into programming mode though.

I checked out that tool. It is a Prolific PL-2303 USB to Serial Controller. The windows application comes with a couple binaries for different channel configurations. The binaries are not intel hex files and are twice the size of the memory in the MCU you mentioned. I am assuming the binaries are encrypted and that the MCU is programmed with a boot loader.

HK has several 'special purpose' dongles that are interesting.

Now closer to the topic. I dont think reprogramming the radio can kill that module. It's probably something in the settings, but cant say for sure . good luck

Is the module powered? are the pins in the RF module bay making good contact with the module's connector?
It could be a coincidence that the module failed when you flashed the FW..

i got another 9XR to test the module. it doesn't work in that one either. so it was just perfect timing i guess...i also measured voltage on the board itself. voltage reg works as intended. i don't see any blown up hardware...just perfect timing...
