HK450 Problems

Post by Kasino »

Hi Guys, glad to find this forum :-)

Well, Im a bit green still and I just tried to fly my HK450 proV2 for the first time and it didn't go well unfortunately.. actually, I was still in the set up phase and that didn't go well..

Quick background – I have two V911 4 channel helis. I can fly them ok, including forward flight and figure 8s etc..
I have HeliX on mac and have logged 30 hours (im sure you guys hear this type of thing alot!). I've been using the Trex 450 in the sim since its the closest thing to the HK450. I can hover inverted in the sim and hover all directions and forward flight. I am using a 9XR in the sim through the JR port and the TX has be flashed with ER9X.

Now this has been a massive learning curve for me, there is so much to take in within this hobby, but I really want to do it. I researched alot and ended up with a 9XR, found out about ER9x and flashed that to my TX. Im still noobish though and setting up the HK450 is different to flying in a sim since the sim only uses 4 channels and is easy to set up.

I spent a few days building the HK450 and got it to a level where I was happy, this in itself was a mission since it's my first build. I began programming the TX from the built in helicopter settings template. Had to reverse a servo and got the swash moving right when inputting right cyclic and moving left when inputting left cyclic. However when giving throttle the pitch on the pitch of the blades went the wrong way.. I couldnt figure this out.

This is ended pretty badly since this is my first 'powerful' heli. I did something wrong on the TX and it took off in the lounge room very fast and hit the roof, ruining the blades, fly bar and more. Extremely fortunate that it didn't hit my wife or myself who were sitting close. So I've had a bit of a set back here and I now fully comprehend the power of these things! I will absolutely disconnect the motor before messing around with this stuff. Anyway, it's pretty frustrating because I've invested much time in trying to learn curves, building, ER9x, choosing servos, ESC, sim set up and more. But i am committed to this. So I will go to Hobbyking, order parts, and start the waiting process again.

In the mean time, I guess what I'm trying to do is truly understand ER9X. Why would the cyclic move correctly, but when applying throttle the swash plate went down instead of up? Also, Can someone explain to me the function of Channel 11 and collective? I understand that the 9Xr is a computerised radio and I would like to try and gain some understanding of what is actually happening, like the mixing of channels..
I understand the menu structure, and the basics but I think im still missing some important factors here.. Just want to get this bird in the air!

Any advice on set up would be greatly appreciated! Cheers

ALWAYS REMOVE BLADES/PROPELLERS WHEN WORKING ON THE MODELS. OR DISCONNECT THE MOTOR.
THESE THINGS ARE DANGEROUS AND WAITING TO BITE YOU ;)

Agreed! The scar in my leg, and the hole in my kitchen ceiling are proof of that!
