open9x-r1439

openTx has introduced a range of new features, ideas and bling. It is fast becoming the firmware of choice for many users. openTx will run on ALL current hardware platforms, including the gruvin9x and sky9x boards. Work has already started to support the new FrSky X9D radio!

Thanks for the new release! Here's some feedback on two [stock] issues that I had reported:

Voice interface data/clock timing: MP3 module's data setup time now meets manufacturer's recommendations.
Inactivity alarm >10 mins: Now correct, premature voice alert fixed.

It looks like I cannot load r1493. Everything seems ok while flashing but in the Tx (ersky9x) the old FW remains. I can flash r1335 and r1379 without problems.
My options are open9x-arm-symlimits-autoswitch-dblkeys-ttsen-en-r1439.
Any ideas? I'm pretty keen on the new functionalities!

You are on sky9x? I suppose you don't have the good zip for SAM-BA.
Hmmm.. where is it?

The load address for the co-processor applet is incorrect. I re-program my board so often, I'm still using a pre-production board with a '3S2 processor on it for most testing, I don't want to wear out the '3S4. The applets load at a different address on the '3S2.

The load and mailbox addresses should be the same as for the other applets.

ok, I copied the directory at91sam3s4-9x and the file boards.tcl into sam-ba_2.11 > tcl_lib
(saved the old ones).
While trying to flash I get this error:
---------------------------
File not found
---------------------------
Board Description File not found:
can't set "COPROCESSOR::appletAddr": parent namespace doesn't exist
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Thanks Mike, package updated

PS: I temporary reverted to old version. The coproc applet is there but not loaded

Romolo... Believe you are the main companion coder?

Do you think k it worth including an option in companion to install the correct tcllib files?

In theory it could be a simple prompt for the correct folder location... Then an install button.

That way you can update it easily?

No I'm not the main companion coder, just a member of the group...
I will try to see if is possible to handle an automatic install, but I foresee at least one issue:
an application running in user mode cannot write to a system dir, not at least on a barely serious operating system.
Furthermore makes little sense to install the applet at any upgrade, but also makes little sense to provide an automatic update procedure for something that normally is not updated too often...
But we will see.. I see something that still need to be updated in c9x, like resident timers. My priority goes there.

Lol... You do seem to do much of the companion coding :-)

Maybe it needs to be a separate process that gets forked off with admin privileges?

However... Consider that it is possible for companion to download and reinstall an update for itself. A similar system might be employed to update the tcl lib?

i tried using WSHH as a vario today. my vario settings are SOURCE=DATA, LIMIT=OFF/-1.00 (i also tried LIMIT=OFF/0.00).

chirps are slow when the plane is on the ground. chirps also get must faster when the airplane is climbing. both are expected, which is great.

however, i also hear chirps when the plane is descending (i believe that should not happen with LIMIT=OFF/0.00). perhaps the code treating LIMIT=OFF/0.00 same as LIMIT=0.00/0.00?. unfortunately, i did not get to try other LIMIT settings.

the altitude readings (in feet) are all correct, like ALT+ and ALT. btw, how does ALT- work?

thanks!

I seem to be getting an output screen instead of a limit screen, I don't know why. but I can't set my inv without the limit screen.
Any Ideas?

You have PPMCA I think. As PPMCA takes some place on the screen, I reused the arrows column. So you only have to place the cursor on the arrow on the channel line and invert it.

ah, thanks for the explanation.

i think my understanding of the vario limit setting might be wrong. does LIMIT=OFF/0.0 also mean that the speaker will beep whenever the plane is descending? that would mean that i should set it to LIMIT=-7.0/0.0 or something.

also, i was poking around the source code (still don't really understand it) and am wondering if "&" below should be "&&"?

frysky.cpp:763
if((varioSpeedUpMin < 0) & (verticalSpeed >= varioSpeedUpMin)){
verticalSpeed -= varioSpeedUpMin;

thanks again for enabling wshh for the vario!

being the two terms between parentheses it's the same logical or binary AND operators makes no difference.
true&true evaluates as true && true

But conceptually you are right should be "&&"

As far as I can tell, yes. if you mean radio setup , I tried all modes: ON (even OFF) sticks, keys, both...
The radio setup menu is also a bit weird, in that values seem to change right away, I mean without being selected by "menu" first...

If there is only one field in a line, it's not needed to press [MENU] to edit it. That's the global rule in open9x, and also er9x if I remember well!

i tried wshh vario with LIMIT=-10.0/0.0 today and it works as expected: rapid chirps on thermal climbs as well as on significant descents. woohoo, again!

so i believe LIMIT=OFF/0.0 is not really "off" for descent but rather it is similar to LIMIT=0.0/0.0, which means start chirping when the altitude drops (or climbs). this would be useful if there was a different tone for down vs up.

thanks again for this feature. it was a blast flying around and hearing those lift chirps today.
