The Mr. Ersky & Mrs. Bluetooth affair

erskyTx runs on many radios and upgrade boards
ersky9x was a port of er9x for use on the sky9x board.

This one is USB to RS232, not to TTL. The BT module micht not like the higher voltage.

Is this correct?
The bluetooth configurator program linked in that post works great for programming the BT adapter. It requires a few files from the open pilot software but you don't have to install the whole thing in order for it to work. I copied the required files and can zip them up and attach them here if anyone is interested.(i don't know if this would be violating anything) The program lets you program the name, BAUD and pin with a few clicks. No need for hyperterminal, putty, hercules, etc.

I also verified that the HobbyKing FTDI adapter works just fine for programming the BT module.

Your right! My fault, the other adapter is needed for ttl.

just had an idea. since The Frysky USB cable is a usb TTL connector, the only thing is it output 5V (currently not connected). i have a couple 3.3 V LM1117 V reg.
how about attach the Frysky USB-TTL 5v and GNd lead to In and GND of the 3.3V reg and connect the Vout from the reg to the BT, erh VOC?
I jsut checked, the ebay BT board takes 3.3V power source
if this works, can save 6+ dollars. ;)

I have all 3 of these:

I don't think it is tha simple. You need an RS232 -> TTL converter if you use that.

breif discussion and explanation of a converter circuit.

http://sodoityourself.com/max232-serial ... converter/

I used one of these before I bought the ftdi adapter.

Adding this? sort of remember read somewhere this was used for rs232 to TTL
I also have this: http://www.alofthobbies.com/frsky-recei ... -lite.html

trying to clear up some inventory to useful thing. ;) one item for one purpose seems to be a waste.

If still no go, I will get the one from amazon (in US, faster): http://www.amazon.com/Micro-SATA-Cables ... B006JKNWLE

I think so too.
see if some one can confirm this.
from the attached Frysky pdf, 3rd page.
the upgrade lite has no marking of its pin out. My guess is those smaller pin out are labelled in the pic for the D8R labelled pin out. the TxD and RxD already reversed on the upgrade lite for D8R. I should connect those pins to BT as labelled on the BT.
If some one can confirm this?

Then... you just hook up your bt moduel to the skyboard, and the frsky module to the telemetry input (only need the data line) and voila, a quick menu change and you're transmitting the telemetry data via bt.

no need for line converters or anything. it's all built in.

Why?

I tried three different ones, they all worked.

9600 baud works. 115whatever works fine too.
You change teh baud rate in the menu. It works. At least for me it does, on 3 different tx's. one with the sparkfun moduel, and the others I have teseted with different Ebay ones.

really! I will give it a try. I thought I read somewhere it needs to be 11K baud to work properly. And I don't think you ever posted those ebay BT result. All keeping to yourself? ;) Must be too much beer.

I figure I have the FRysky USB (usb-ttl) and upgrade lite(ttl-rs232). I might be able to use those 2 together to change the baud rate on BT (as Kilrah stated). Instead of buying another converter cable just to put one stupid line of AT command to the BT. ;)
and I can use this for future other uses too. saving 6-7 dollars will get me a digital wheel encoder.

Not enough beer, wife's been off for two months now because of her EBS (eds?) anyways, no extra income, puttign a strain on everything here.

You can use those to change the baud rate if need be. You shouldn't have to though, you can select the baud rate in the menu settings (model menu I do believe is where it's hiding)

Now to figure out how to paint my radio... can't decide... either a ww1 scene with snoopy flyign a bipe, or just the canadian flag, or both...

On ersky9x, RADIO SETUP (2/9) at the bottom of the screen you may select the baudrate the processor uses to 'talk' to the BT module, options are 115200, 9600 and 19200. provided your BT module defaults to one of these, you should be able to get it working.
I have plans to implement a baudrate search to find what the BT module is set to, and then change it to you required setting within ersky9x, some code is in place for this.

thx Mike. I saw those baud rate setting. But some how I thought those lower rate wasn't working well.
good, I will give the BT a try. then figure out how to make that connector. (I think I have it figured out after searching different diagram). It would be good for future use too. rs232, ttl , darn, why can't they use the same protocol. :?

ha ha, yep, all 3 baud rate works. i wonder where I read it needs to be certain baud rate. Must be from the preproduction discussion.
I changed all 3 baudrate setting in Tx, all 3 rate can establish link on my Motoroala Photon 4G using FrySky Dash Board app.
so Mike: you have figured out how to set the BT baud rate through the Tx. I must miss that part in the posts.

The BT is from ebay with header pins presoldered and connection wires. It shows up on cell phone as "Linvor". autoconect like a charm in any 3 baud rates.

But I still want to make that stupid rs232->usb work for future use though.

No I haven't done any baudrate setting for the actual BT module. The module probably connects whether the baudrate is correct or not. Are you receiving any actual data over BT?

Mike: I have not done data transfer test yet. I will do it some time today (no flying though, just on the bench). I have to pick up some 'Honeydew' yesterday after that. ;)
I changed baud rate in Tx. shut down both. turn them back on. It connected without any problem at all 3 baud rates.
The Frysky app on my cell phone can be set to automatically turn on my cell phone BT. I don't even need to worry about that. Just run the program, it connects on its own when Tx is on.
If BT connects properly, it still may not be working properly if baud rate is not right?

I assume you mean data lines, ie TxD,RxD,G not just TxD from module to board RxD.

Only need one line, gnd osn't needed, and you aren't transmitting data to the hub. :)

If you want, then only rx to tx and tx to rx. But one line is all you need.
