Module or MOD for turnigy 9x

Post by altereddezignz9x »

Hello everyone i am new to the forum and i was directed to this site for great help with the new Radio that i just purchased..

Here the the turnigy 9x that i purchased.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... ouse_.html

Now here is my dilemma. I have read so many things about what RF module to add it it. Here are the three that i have read about.

DIY inside the radio but does not come with a receiver.
Still have to add the cost of $25 for a receiver.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... odule.html

Pretty much plug and play after un soldering the old antenna wire and removing the antenna. Comes with a receiver also great price. Of course it is always out of stock at hobby king.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... II_RX.html

And this is the last one. It is the telemetry screen and antenna with leads to solder inside the radio but does not come with a receiver.
Still have to add the cost of $25 for a receiver.

Now wouldn't the best bet be to use the
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... II_RX.html
Since it comes with everything including a receiver all for under 40$?

Next issue. If i use any of these other than the one that comes with the display will the telemetry show in the LCD screen that is already on the Turnigy 9x?

So what if i want to add the larger display later? Can i or would i be wasting money.

When i upgrade to the FRSKY 2.4 telemetry module will my receive that came with my turnigy stock work with this new FR module?

If i am reading right any of the FRSKY receivers will work with the FRSKY telemetry module weather it has telemetry on the receiver or not. Correct?

After alot of reading was also informed that the 5DB gain antenna was the best match for the radio and module. The 7db seamed to lower the range of the radio based on my readings.

Sorry for all the question but i was not able to fins much on these particular question in the forum. If it matters i am from the USA Arkansas.

Thank you very much in advance for the help. I lok forward to receiving my radio soon.

FrSky basically has two systems: the older without telemetry and the newer with telemetry. The telemetry transmitters can be used for either system. This is set by an external switch. The older transmitters can only talk to the older receivers. FrSky is right now introducing receivers that understand both protocols. With all this cross compatibility it is hard to go wrong with FrSky stuff. I wish other manufacturers would take note...
It is up to you to decide if you want telemetry or not and if you want an external FrSky display or if you want to use the internal display of the transmitter. The latter is cheaper but requires modifications of the hardware.
Personally I have decided that I want to use transmitter modules to be able to switch systems quickly. But others see it differently.

You might look into the Aloft web site as an alternative to Hobbyking. I hear that they are quicker if you live in the states. And they seem to have most things in stock.

Well i guess my real question is lets say i use the frsly display. Do i just take out the module that is in the radio now? and just leave the open box back there? the pic on the aloft sight shows another or older radio with a pull out antenna.

I just did the same thing your asking, I brought the telemetry DIY module that you have to solder into the transmitter with the external screen and a receiver I choose this way so my transmitter will still look the same after changing to Frsky and not have a second antenna poking from it out the back
If you wanted to check out the ones I got on Hobbyking My List for Hobbyking Just take a look there at the buddy-codes to help you save a few cents
The FrSky FLD-02 Telemetry Display Screen i got will Plug into the Module and sit on top of the transmitter with the telemetry displayed there and that can be added later

to get the telemetry to show on the screen of the 9X you have to do a Mod on the inside of the transmitter which involves some small soldering which is way beyond my ability that's why i went with the FrSky FLD-02 Telemetry Display Screen

the receiver that comes with the 9X wont work with the Frsky system, wish they would myself :) but yes Any of the Frsky receiver will work with the telemetry Module as long at you select which sort of receiver it is before you turn on the transmitter ( one way or 2 way Receiver ) Via a toggle switch that you mount on the transmitter

If yo want to watch a Video on installing one into a 9x Installing a FrSky Telemetry DIY into a 9X

hope this Helped

Thank you very much. I just ordered everything based off of exactly what you did other than i ordered a 8ch receiver. I may be asking a few more questions when it all get here. My other question is i have 11 spektrum receivers. Any way to use them?

I went through the same thought decision.viewtopic.php?f=40&t=843

When you add up the cost of the module, display and a telemetry capable receiver, the DJT, DHT, or DHT-U options are pretty close in cost.

For a no-solder set-up you can get a DJT/FLD-02 or the DHT-U. The DHT-U will require you to fashion a connector to use the module pins or the trainer port. But, the DHT-U gives you data logging.

Just to make your decision more difficult, Smartieparts is about to release a no-solder board for telemetry on the 9x screen. (Requires ability to flash new firmware)viewtopic.php?f=23&t=994&p=16186&hilit=telemetrez#wrap

SO, if you can live without data logging and don't mind having two antennas (or will remove the stock antenna) the DJT module is a good way to go. Simple, reversible, and keeps your options open. When the telemetrEZ board is available, you can put telemetry on the 9x screen.

If you want to use telemetry you also need to get the sensor hub and whatever sensors you want.

Some of the frsky sensors connect to the hub, which in turn connects to the receiver.
