when powered from an external psu connected to pins 1 and 3 of the main connector while
playing with the voice module (no back panel connected) Was OK with it all plugged together.
Eventually discovered (r763 firmware) that it was the pot scroll option, which defaults to "on".
I guess if it doesn't see a pot to scroll from, it gets confused, like me
When I managed to grab the option and turn it off, all was well
I hope this saves some time for someone!
