eepe Software and Telemetry Tab
eepe Software and Telemetry Tab
Hi All,
Sorry if is a really basic noob question but in the eepe software on the toolbar tab there is an option called Telemetry.
What is this for and how does it work ?
I've searched everywhere and can't find an answer to this, I can't seem to find a eepe user manual, only ER9X etc which don't cover this.
Any guidance would be great
Cheers
Steve

Re: eepe Software and Telemetry Tab
There are 4 sub-tabs:
Telemetry: Simulates a "Winged Shadow How High" device for testing (many years ago!).
Module: Allows a DHT/DJT/DFT module alarms to be configured over a serial port.
SPortUart: Allows a FrSky SPort Uart sensor to be configured, needs a STK type device for conection.
Screen: Only useful in eepskye, allows some radios to show their display on the PC. This is useful for making screen captures.

Thanks Mike,
Is there any guides about on how to use this?
Also would it work with a XJT module ?
Cheers

Re: eepe Software and Telemetry Tab
I don't think there are any guides!
For the module tab, just connect a serial port from the computer to the serial port on the back of the module, set the COM port at the top of the window, click the Start button, then Read Alarms or Set alarms.
I'm not sure if it works with a XJT.

Check the links under my posts. Perhaps I made a video about it in the past, but I can't remember..

Re: eepe Software and Telemetry Tab
Hi João
Some good videos there and yes in video "Eepskye Explained" at 11 mins there is a brief overview
What I'm trying to work out is a have a RX / TX link that will drop out every 5 mins or so, so been monitoring Telemetry to see if I can see anything wrong. I just turn off the 9XR and switch it back on and it works straight away.
The only thing I've noticed so far is TSSI is low, now is this normal ? like a SWR you get on an antenna as if I remove the antenna the bar goes up ?
The other thing it maybe is the firmware levels of my hardware,
so I'm on a 9XR with the following
SVN: er9x-r813
VERS: V1.276-Mike
DATE: 14.08.2014
TIME: 13:27:07
MOD: FRSKY 128
Frsky XJT Module but I have no idea of the firmware level, is there a way I can tell ??
Frsky RX6R RX on ACCST D16 firmware, far as I can tell there have been no updates to this.
My older X8R pro and X4R Rx's seem to be ok, but again they would be on a older firmware.
Any help of guidance would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Re: eepe Software and Telemetry Tab
The XJT module does return SWR instead of Tx RSSI (TSSI), so the value you see is the SWR value, just has the wrong name. Newer revisions of er9x show the correct name.
The latest released revision of er9x is 821, probably worth updating to this.
No way to tell what firmware is in the XJT without flashing known firmware!
If the link fails, what do the LED(s) on the Rx show?

Re: eepe Software and Telemetry Tab
Mike,
Rx is Red flash at 1 Hz so failsafe ?
XJT is red solid, green very fast flash
Also while I was typing this out it has just re connected by it self....
Cheers

Re: eepe Software and Telemetry Tab
How far is the radio from the receiver? when the link fails?
XJT and its receivers are known not to like to be too close to each other. Separate them by 2 or 3 meters and see if the problem is still there..

Re: eepe Software and Telemetry Tab
João
I think you may have just worked this out.
I've just tested again and it does only seem to happen when the Rx is up to approx 1.5 meters from the Tx, anything further and it seems OK,
Is there any way to improve this though or just something I need to live it?
Really I need to be close'ish to the model and it isn't like I've even going to be a more than a few meters from it.
This is model

Re: eepe Software and Telemetry Tab
Nice model Steve unfortunately as far as I know, there is nothing you can do.
You could try to find some compatible low power receiver. Or get a Multiprotocol module and set it to low power on the frsky protocol. But be careful, if you ever fly something, you must be sure it is set to full power.

Re: eepe Software and Telemetry Tab
Thanks João
I will have a look for something different may be, any recommendations at all ? . Or I could may swap out the RX6R and put a X8R in there as they have never given a problem in the past, it is just the size. It will need Telemetry as I monitor the voltages via the Tx.
Trust me I won't be flying.... Feet firmly on the ground nowadays so hence the slow moving model
Cheers

Re: eepe Software and Telemetry Tab
Just wondering if you could reduce the receiver antenna sensitivity in the model. Perhaps, put the active part of the antenna inside a (large diameter, perhaps 10mm?) metal or carbon tube. Another possibility is to wrap the active part around a (10mm?) diameter, non-conductive rod (avoiding sharp bends of the antenna). Do not cut the antenna.
Using one of these methods could well allow operation at close range, yet still allow the Rx to be used for full range if the antenna was mounted normally in another model.

Re: eepe Software and Telemetry Tab
Thanks Mike,
Makes sense, I'll have a look in to this at the weekend when I have more time.
I did try it with the antenna off the module which would reduce the power output but would increase the SWR so in theory would be more prone to interference?? To be honest couldn't notice much improvement in the link between the Rx & Tx in this condition.
Ideally what I could do with is the range test that can be run in the ER9X software and the Rx to be permanent
Typical of me trying to do the opposite from the norm, I guess most people would want the range on their models.
Cheers

Re: eepe Software and Telemetry Tab
Don't remove the module's antenna as it could damage it.. Same for the receiver.
You could try Mike's suggestions..
