Why a linear regulator?

erskyTx runs on many radios and upgrade boards
ersky9x was a port of er9x for use on the sky9x board.

Why a linear regulator?

Post by MojoMaestro »

I made this topic in RcModelReviews for ErSky9x,
it's always good to make more sales & get more people to join.

Here's a question that Bruce Simpson asked me.

Looks cool -- how come you stuck with a linear regulator instead of a switched-mode one?

Is it a low-dropout reg -- so that a 2S LiFePO4 battery can be used -- that'd be really nice.

Makes sense to me cuz i run my 9x on the 2s li-on modification
since i am scared of over voltage.

noise
cost
space

I've seen the switched one on a board already, it may been a cost saving idea at the moment.

Nice picture on that link.

Yes, it is uses Low dropout 3.3V Linear regulator.

There was no room for a switching regulator , unless I went to module type ...
These cost between $5 and $15 each and still there was no drop in part available.

Also because of noise , you would need to use a 5V switching regulator , and feed it to the 3.3V linear regulator.

Why was there a link to the smartie parts board in that post? I think some people were getting confused as to what ersky9x is and where to get it.
Sky9X: One radio to rule them all, and in the darkness BIND them.
