Custom Splash Screen on 9x with OpenTX 2.1.8 not working

I'm having a little trouble getting a custom splash screen to show on my TGY 9x.
I have tried setting the image in the profile, and also writing the image to a copy of the firmware HEX file.
It looks like everything works when uploading, but the controller just shows the stock OpenTX logo.

This may or may not be related, When I read the models from the controller, I get this error:
Your eeprom is from an old version of OpenTX, upgrading!
You should 'save as' to keep the old files as a backup.

It happens every time I read the models.
I am using OpenTX 2.1.8
Previously I had er9x loaded
