6 position switch install question OpenTx 9xr Pro

Post by F550Hex »

Hi all,

I'm having an issue with my install of a Radio Shack 2-pole 6 position rotary switch in place of my Pot1.
https://www.radioshack.com/products/rad ... 5717501509

I can get 5 flight modes with my setup but should be able to get 6. The issue is that 2 of the switch values end up in the same range and the values are inverse from what I'd like.

range actual resistors(from memory)
FM1 0-1230 990 works 2.2K ohm
FM2 1231-1360 1238 works 1.5K ohm
FM3 1361-1490 1415 works 1.5K ohm
FM4 1491-1620 1589 works 1.5K ohm
FM5 1621-1749 1765 doesn't 2.2K ohm + 330 ohm
FM6 1750 + 2014 works

I'd like to have my values show up in reverse so that FM1 is Stabilize, FM2 is AltHold, FM3 is PosHold, FM4 is Brake and FM5 is Loiter while turning the rotary switch clockwise as I do now. Can I just switch the 5V+ and the ground on the switch to accomplish this? Or setup OpenTx so that it reads the inverse?

Also, what is the best method for getting a good reading for FM5/FM6 so that I have 6 PWMs in range? Add a resistor? Use lower value resistor on FM5? Setup a stepped curve in OpenTx for Pot1?

Thanks for any and all help. I'm good at following instruction but this is my first time wiring resistors, multi-position switches and dealing with PWMs.

How have you wired this switch and what firmware are you using on the radio.

Somehow the post was submitted before I entered all the info.

Sorry for the terrible drawing... I'm running the newest version of OpenTx.

I should mention, I know that I didn't follow other people's online instruction for resistors. The Radio Shack in my home town is the only place to get said resistors and I did the best I could since they are VERY low on stock for electronics hardware. They are only carrying about 10% of what they had last year. And I'm a typical impatient hobbyist trying to wing it with what I could find vs. waiting for shipping from an online retailer. Besides, keep it local if possible, right?

I did mess with the Ch5 Curve to no avail if it is configured how I imagine it should be. Can't find much online on the topic.

I also tried changing the Ch5 Output to Direction > Inverse and it did change the direction but changed it from 0-5 CCW so I'll just change that back and it doesn't matter except in logical order on the screen, which isn't much at all.

It looks like openTx doesn't support a 6-pos switch on the 9XR-PRO as well as it does on a Taranis.
Are you simply using this as though it is a pot, then trying to get the correct outputs on a channel?

I reckon your inputs are at: -100, -51, -17, 17, 51, 100 and you want outputs of:
-100, -40, -15, 11, 36, 100

Try setting up a 5 point curve at -100, -40, 0, 36, 100.

If you want to reverse the output, just set the 5-point curve to 100, 36, 0, -40, -100.

I tried the curve last night but no luck. My PWM numbers are identical before and after setting the curve. Shouldn't they change? Now I'm questioning if I've missed something somewhere...

Did you set the curve AND added it to the mix??

I created Curve 1 using the values from Mike and assigned Curve 1 to Pot3 on CH5. I'll take some screenshots tonight and hopefully that will uncover something.

It looks like it should all work.
Please do the following.
Remove the curve from the mix on channel 5.
Now go to the main screen on the radio that shows the output as numbers. Change the switch on P3 and see what the numbers are for channel 5.
Now create a curve 2 with 5 points at: 50, 25, 0, -25, -50. Set the mix on channel 5 to use curve 2.
Now return to the main screen with the channel numbers. As you now change the switch, you should get very different numbers.

Thank you Mike! After putting in your values and nothing happening, I started poking around and believe I had a firmware version with "nocurve" selected. I reflashed with that NOT selected and your values now work for all 6 positions for me! Much appreciated kind sir!!
