I would like a topic on this so we can share test equipment recommendations with links reviews and prices.
Mainly scopes, meters, and soldering irons and stations. Logic analyzers as well.
Personal reviews are the most value since its real time usage on the 9x projects. Scope bandwidth recommendations at lowest price would be a great service. The screen capture feature is very nice to have.

HP8593A spectrum analyzer (2nd hand obviously...)
AC/DC current clamp meter/multimeter
Standard multimeter

Scope: DSO Quad, works great with some bugs, open source.
Swiss knife: bus pirate, great tool.
Multimeter: Voltcraft 270, works great.
Soldering iron: Ersa RDS80, works great.
Portable soldering: Portasol Pro Piezo, for fine and coarse soldering.
Desoldering iron: Aoyue 474, it works sometimes.

Two helpful test equipment items are,
ImmersionRC RF Power Meter (http://www.immersionrc.com/downloads/ma ... Manual.pdf).
Which can be used to measure a transmitter's output power reading in dBm or mW
and checking the efficiently of antennas by comparing between signal strength of different antennas.
Cost: $149.99
RF Explorer 6G Combo (http://j3.rf-explorer.com/40-rfe/articl ... cification) spectrum analyzer.
Which can show frequency bands between 15 - 2700 MHz and 4850 - 6100 MHz.
Frequency bands like 72, 433, 933 MHz, 2.4 and 5.8 GHz.
Also GPS 1.228 and 1.575 GHz, and some others like VHF, UHF, FM radio, GPS, WiFi and WiMax, Bluetooth
and 2m HAM radio. Cost: $365.00.
