FrSky new X9 Lite with a new Access protocol

Post by bob195558 »

I saw yesterday that FrSky is working on another new radio
"X9 Lite" with a new Access protocol which they also have
added an unnecessary encryption to it.

This is the only info I have been able to find about it so far:

9x Lite
9x Lite

I think, they would be smarter to work on a FrSky Multiprotocol module,
not more radios.
(still got display screens at the bottom should be at the top, outdated control buttons too)
Er9x on 9x radio, with Smartieparts Programmer and TelemetrEZ Board.
ErSky9x on Taranis, Sky9x, 9Xtreme radios.

It's called a X9Lite (not 9x!).
There is a lot of mis-information around, that video included. FrSky have also announced changes since that video was made.
Any encryption is purely between the Tx module and the receiver.
The X9Lite is available with a choice of ErskyTx or openTx.
Menu navigation is mainly by the roller on the right, which also has a switch for "ENTER" when it is pressed.
It has been launched with only ACCESS protocol on the internal module, but this will have an update (possibly before the end of May) to also support ACCST D16. The older D8 is more of a problem as it is not legal in Europe for new products.

But it can be used with an external Multiprotocol module, right?

The module bay is the "Lite" type, as on the XLite. This has an 8-pin connector and supports much higher transfer rates for both output (servo control) and input (telemetry).

D8 mode, in Europe, is OK if you have a DIY multiprotocol module, but any commercial modules sold in Europe should be compliant with the current (LBT type) regulations.

FrSky X9-Lite 8 pin module bay looks to be a lot smaller too.

and....I'm looking at Jumper radio's now.

Frsky wants to ride open source software until others use the software on similar hardware? protocol encryption? funky external bay?

Nah...I won't be buying frsky branded isht anymore.

The protocol used by FrSky for the RF link has always been closed source. Any encryption being used is confined to this link.
The "new" external bay has more connections available than the (now dated) "JR" module bay. This allows for improved performance.

I have a T16, so I may port erskyTx to it, but I've been waiting for several months for Jumper to provide me with any technical documentation for the T16. It appears they are relying on the T16 being an almost direct copy of the FrSky X10, and expecting the firmware port to use the same code as the X10.

Of course, but makes other modules unusable, including the very known, and highly used multi protocol module. You will be only limited to the Frsky protocol.. Not good. :(

There are at least 2, "lite" versions of the multiprotocol module currently available. OK, you have to buy a new module, but it is possible.

The Vantac MPM by FrSky uses the “lite” interface and works well.

Hmm, I don't know what they are. :(

But yeah, if people already bought the MPM module, won't buy a Frsky radio that doesn't accept it.. I wouldn't, but I wouldn't buy any other radio as well.. The only advantage of any frsky radio over my "DIY" radios, in my opinion, is that they have a bigger LCD. All the rest, my radios do the same, ir even more.. :)
And most have the MPM module installed inside.. :D Can't beat that :) ;)
I can fly at least 60% of my clubs friends models with my radios.. :)

Could there be a mod to use the new FrSky module (R9M Lite module) on our 9x radios ?
Maybe a mod to add the three more wire connections as we can always attach an external module,
even velcro it to the back.

Possibly, but there is the "JR" style R9M module available anyway.

MPM lite modules are VANTAC and IRANGE IRX4 lite.

So the three more connections are not needed or does the "JR" style R9M module not perform the same as the R9M Lite module ?

They perform the same, except that the new ACCESS protocol is available for the R9Mlite. This has an improved performance.

So the New R9M Lite module has improved performance over the R9M JR style module.

Would the improved performance of the New R9M Lite module be enough value to do a mod to be able to use it on our 9x radios ?

I fly everything with MPM. I use mainly D8 protocol and also have some DIY D16 receivers that were never released as a project to the public. :( And I am not authorized to do so unfortunately :(
But yeah, MPM is my main module. Never had a single prob. Link between my MPM modules and the DIY receivers is over 1.5Km, which is great.. :)
