TarX9D+. Old radio. Can't access bootloader

Post by Karlos »

Hi! I'm a total newbie at this, so I would really appreciate some help here :)

I've bought an old Taranis 9XDplus along a lot of other stuff. I noticed that i couldn't access the bootloader. I figured this could be due to old software, but i couldn't locate any Youtubevideos or guides on how to proceed since all guides assumes i have a functioning bootloader.

Not really knowing what i was doing, I removed the existing contents on the SD-card and then filled it with the "SD-card contents" from the Frsky website, and then placed a firmware for Taranis X9D plus from Companion in the "Firmware" map.

So far, It hasn't worked and still, the radio says it's running a version from 2015....

Basically, i would like some help with how to update my radio to enable bootloader. (I know i somehow managed to do it on my Taranis X7 Q).

Would really appreciate some help, since I really looking forward to start practising.

Thanks in advance!

How are you trying to get into bootloader mode?
Sometimes people hold the power on button too long and the tx will not got into the bootloader.

This video introduces the 3 ways firmware can be updated. The last resort method starts at around 9 minutes 30 seconds + or -.

I appreciate the help.

Sadly, neither method helped. I believe there is something with the radio that makes it unable to connect to companion for updates. Whenever i try to flash it, I get a message that says something like:

"Could not verify firmware for radio"

Would appreciate it if anyone could help with a possible solution to this :)

Some info needed and info and troubleshooting hints:

0. What is the version number of OpenTx on the Tx firmware?
... and what is the version number of the Companion software?
This should be of the form 1.x.y or 2.x.y

1. Have you tried a few different USB cables? and different USB ports?
Some cables are charge only and do not have a data wire.
Sometimes USB3 ports are problematic.
Remove as many USB devices as possible and try again.

2. Explain your environment.
Windows PC, Mac, Linux, with versions.

3. Leave the Tx powered off and plug in the USBto the Pc and tx.
Using File Explorer or its equivalent, do you see 2 new drives displayed?

4. I would not use the FrSky site for downloading firmware or SD card contents.
Use the 'real' openTx site, https://www.open-tx.org/downloads .
