X9E rotary encoder wiring/pinouts

Post by timrowledge »

I had to replace the main board in my X9E; tediously long sotry behind that.
One of the results was having to unsolder the little carrier board for the rotary encoder, and of course, resoldering it on the new main board. In the process of unsoldering I seem to have managed to remove the pcb traces immediately around the 5 standoff that connect it to the main board.

Unless by chance anyone knows a place to get a replacement I will need to do a hack wiring job from the pins to the encoder pins. I *think* it's reasonably clear but I'd much prefer to hear about the part number/wiring diagram/whatever that applies so I can feel a little more confident. I'd hate to blow up *another* board...

It's certainly easier to see than the real one! These days I simply can't focus close enough to see such small things adequately. It's certainly going to be fun to solder...
If I've found info on the right items to compare online, the pins connect to (from top)
A
GND
B
Switch
GND
Does that sound about right?

That sounds right. I can recommend getting a cheap pair of X4 reading glasses for this sort of close work. For the surface mount stuff, I use a X20, stereo microscope.

Use single strand wire, I use Kynar, wirewrapping wire.

OK. I'll be brave... Maybe I'll even get to fly this year!

Well, this might be interesting to somebody else some day, so herewith a description of the board in question. Whilst pondering the job of soldering I wondered if the pins etc were conveniently layed out to match veroboard. Turns out to be so. So, I cut a small rectangle of veroboard, desoldered the encoder from the original board, aligned the various pin holes, marked mounting holes, drilled and filed. Everything fits cleanly and I just have to cut some tracks and solder a few jumper wires. Neat!
