Is it possible to use OpenXvario with only one function ?

Post by Billy60 »

Good evening

I have a few OpenXvarios working fine, with GPS+ VFAS + Altimeter.
Now I wish to make one using only the GPS function.
I never could make it work.
Now, am I wrong ? it seems all functions are somewhere linked ...
Only GPS: without the GPS function, the vario works fine.

I did adjust the Basic.h and advanced.h files, yes.

Thanks !

Which version of oXs?

And post both 'oXs_config_basic.h' and 'oXs_config_advanced.h'

Good morning Kalle

Here is the config Basic.h file:

Code: Select all

// OpenXsensor https://github.com/openXsensor/
// started by Rainer Schlosshan and maintained by Michel Strens

// This is version : 8.2.12 (29 dec 2017)

//******************************************************************************************************************************************************* //
//                                                                                                                                                        //
// ! IMPORTANT NOTE !!!!!!!!!! Another file in this project provides detailed explanations on how to set up this file (see oXs_config_description.h). //
//                                                                                                                                                        //
//******************************************************************************************************************************************************* //
// Note: the oXs_config_basic.h and oXs_config_advanced.h files present on the GitHub site are not always meaningful.
// It could be that the combination of active/non active parameters is not consistent.
// This is just the result of many updates and tests in this document.
// So take always care to set up the files according to your needs and check carefully all options.
// For old version 2 and 3 of oXs, there was a program named "configurator" running on PC that allowed easier editing of a oXs_config.h file
// Still this configurator is not developped anymore. So this version request manual editing.

According to your experience, how high is the failure rate for the Neo6M gps modules you can find ? I find that more than 60% are dead on arrival, plus a few dying after a few hours of working. I do supply 3.3Vcc, from the nano board.

Thanks for your help !

Hi Kalle

When compiling your files I get the error messages:
exit status 1
#error When AN_ADS1115_IS_CONNECTED is set on YES, ADS_MEASURE (in oXs_config_advanced.h) must be uncommented and contains 4 values

This as in the Basic file that ADS1115 is defined to be NO
Where does i find this value YES in the whle system ... ?

Thanks for your help !

Well, I finally made it with my original files.
In fact, 75% of the GPS modules I got from A...zon were dead on arrival or died after a few minutes. All of the Aliexpress ones turned out to be good.

Now, in all cases one has to keep the bit about measuring Amps in the Advanced file. The rest can be made comment safely to keep the function you need, except the Current measurement.
Of course you must answer the Basic file questions.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds more like a usage issue, like they were 3.3V only modules and were powered with 5V.

Very common mistake, I would say ;)
