Switched 2 cell LiFe balance charge socket

Post by Rob Thomson »

For some time I have successfully used switched 3.5mm audio jacks as a useful socket for providing both power to the receiver, and charging of the battery.

The idea simply being that when the male jack is plugged in, the receiver is unpowered and the charge circuit enabled - when the jack is removed the receiver gets powered.

Very useful for small gliders with limited access!

With the advent of LiFe batteries I am looking into doing a similar thing.

Using a 3 pin stereo socket it should be possible to balance charge, etc.. in the same fashion.

My concern at present is the possibility of shorts when plugging the barrel connection in.

I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on how to mitigate the risk of this?

Maybe some magic combination of components - resister / diode that would help?
