Short curcuit Turnigy 9x
Short curcuit Turnigy 9x
Being new to the RC scene and electronicly challange I have managed to make the biggest stuff up I could.....I put a battery in the wrong way around and turned on my unit Crackling sounds happened and smoke came out . I emailed Hobby king (the place i brought the transmitter) and they said "You know what you have done- you've blown it up, but most importantly it CAN be fixed" and sent me to this forum for advice. Can someone please help me try and get this TX working again? Thanks, challenged newbee.

Welcome. Yes usually we can help.
First tip
Post your location it can really help it get fixed fast a lot of the time.
Another question is how well do you solder and what do you have for a soldering iron? Knowing this helps with the level of help, there is a whole topic on repairing your tx. I'll post the link here but I have to find it again.
OK here it is

Thanks for the reply show master....I'm in NZ. I have a fine point solder iron and my skills are beginer (but willing to learn). Have "U-tube"d quite a bit and also some good stuff on RC forums. Have emailed "digi-key" to try and get some parts. will wait and see what happens? Looks like they might charge me $39us to get 4 little pieces down here might be better off just buyying another unit at that price.
Re: Short curcuit Turnigy 9x
That is absurd.. where are you importing that from? Mars?
Don't you have electronic components supplier in NZ?? what about Australia? Can't be so expensive from there I guess..
Try China.. ebay for example..

Re: Short curcuit Turnigy 9x
I shorted out the 5v supply on the pins for the rf module once. It burned up a trace on the small board in the middle of the TX. This doesnt sound like your issue but may help some other person with fat fingers like me.

Re: Short curcuit Turnigy 9x
Pictures please.
Shorting out and burning a trace may not be so bad. The trace acted like a fuse and if your lucky it saved the rf module. So what are you left with now? Anything working or totally dead?
How good are you with a multimeter and do you own one?
Give us some more details and you may get a lucky answer.

Re: Short curcuit Turnigy 9x
Thanks for the offer to help
yes I repaired it and it is back in service.
Next time I open it up I can get a pic of it.
It took me a while to trace it down because the trace burn was on the small board in the middle, it is labeled front. It has the power switch on it I believe. I was erroneously thinking I had burned out the regulator
Here is a pic of someone elses 9x that shows the board. The bad trace was on the back side If I recall. I cant imagine me overlooking it if it was right in my face, but you never know.

Hopefully the OP of this thread can draw on the other people whom had plugged in the battery backwards. I seem to recall that being covered before.
