Re: Flash Sale: FS-TH9x-B for $69.95 through Friday July 20t

Post by Rob Thomson »

Hey... we dont really have a policy in place for this sort of post.

I dont mind 'too' much as the details are very related to this forum and the products we do use, however I also dont like the idea of the forum being used just for the sake of posting for a sale of ones products.

All becomes rather 'grey' - so I figure some sort of general concensus should be agreed upon so things dont get out of hand.

Any thoughts??

Keep it clean, no advertising of things like that. Otherwise you have to let EVERYONE do it. Smack, skynorth and erazz... and the gruvin guy, I can see usign this forum, but not a 'retailer' They have rcgroups and other forums. Keep this for DEVELOPERS only to sell their craft.

They can contact a wide audience at rcgroups, I think, if the post their own thread.

Ok.. how about policy as follows.

No 'direct' adverising of products.

If however, an end person is actually helping a member, and it leads to a 'Hey... we have the product you need check here'. Then no problem.

That sound fair?

What it would do is encourage the retailer to participate within the community to gain a benifit of a potential sale.

All ok with that?

I'll happily remove the post. The forum is titled "Where to Buy". I thought it was appropriate. I wouldn't have posted it anywhere else.

Rob, Don't you have to pay to keep the forum up? You could create a place on the forum just for advertising.. and charge ;)

Hey.. thanks. No hard feelings.

It is a very 'grey' topic, and I needed to get it addressed sooner rather than later.

I guess the tough thing is that it is the difference between a member posting:

Hey.. I noticed Parkeflyer have a sale on.. etc...

vs...

The retail company posting... 'We have a sale on....'

Guess it all comes down to motives/ethics or some other kind of rubbish!... I need a beer!

I have considered that.. but have not really wanted to overload the forum with too many adverts. I will give it some thought.. maybe a column on the left for that?

The idea of only admitting announcements and informarion from original hardware and software developers is probably the wisest choice. If these are commercial or not does not really matter. I for one would not mind participation and information from FlySky or FrSky. Thinking about it it is a bit strange that neither are present.

On the other it would be handy to keep a thread open for product offers and services that are closely related to the 9x but are not really original. But such a thread should be locked and all posts should go through a moderator to prevent generic advertising for neck straps etc.

A separate forum where I am not forced to look at the advertisements would be fine. Then if I were looking for something I could try looking in there first. But yea, no direct advertising in the regular forums.
