Controlling a strobe light

Post by Galand »

I ordered and received from Flytron a white Strobon flashing LED.
http://www.flytron.com/rc-light-systems ... light.html
It flashes very brightly and it runs fine off a battery or when plugged into the Batt Channel, however when plugged into a normal receiver channel I cannot get it to work.

The description says:

”It is allowing 2 different working modes, RC mode or Standalone.
Power it with directly from battery (4-6v) it works on Standalone mode and strobes continuously.
Plug it on your RC receiver’s any channel for RC mode, then you can On/Off it over servo channel.”

Option 1 works indeed but I cannot get the second one to work.
I have Er9x and ideally I would like to have it controlled by the AIL switch.
I have seen Reinhard’s setup in post #15391

CH09 +100% P1
+100%Ch9 Slow(u1:d0)

No joy

I asked Flytron and they repeated essentially the product description:
“Plug it into switch channel of your receiver and your EPA and gain values must be default or Use a servo tester for fast test”

I extended the range to +/- 125%. No joy
On my servo tester it starts to flash in the upper 1/3 of the range.

I thought that a simple: CH8 +100%FULL Switch (AIL), which in Eepe simulation moves the slider for CH8 up and down nicely, should have done the trick, but no luck.

To add insult to …, when I accidentally switched off the Tx before powering off the model, the @**#*** thing starts to flash !!!

I must be missing something stupid but I am stymied!

Did you try a servo on that channel? Just to confirm it works

Interesting!
Per your recommendation, tested with servos and found something rather strange.
Neither Ch7 nor Ch8 move the servo's and that on two different 8/9Ch receivers.
One is a Turnigy and the other is a Flysky.
Both are 8/9 channel V2's
The test:
1)Copied the working +100%AIL line from Ch1 into Ch7 and Ch8
2)When ailerons are plugged into Ch1 they move OK. When plugged into Ch7 or Ch8, no movement!
3)Tested on two different 8/9 Ch Rx's
4)When plugging the strobe into Ch6, which is programmed for 3 position flaps with the ID0-ID2 switch, the strobe works on ID0 and stops working on ID1 and ID2.

IIRC in the stock FW Ch5 and above are AUX channels and need to be activated by linking them to one of the 4 base channels.
Does Er9x need to do something like that?

10 lines down on the model menu screen 2/10, there is a selection for how many channels. Is that at 8 on that model, or is it only set to 6 or 4 for some reason? Would that do it??

Wheelspinner, I'll be d@#&****d
It was set at 6 channels.
Changed it to 8 channels and BINGO!!!!
Nothing wrong with the Rx's.
Simple mix 100% MAX AIL
It works. Thanks a million!
I never noticed that option.
Why does it exists? Occam's razor?
At least, I would suggest that, if it is set to 6Ch, then in Epee the sliders for channels above 6 should not move if you create a mix for those channels.

sweet I'm changing my signature now to :

Even a blind pig gets an accorn every now and then.!

Glad that worked.

Maybe as erazz about that issue in eepe. I think consistency there would be good.

I think it can be selected becuase certain setups, it allows for spacing between channels, if you need to run some channel travel over 100%. Some one else can explain that better probably.

Rob do you know why the protocol options allow for a number of channels?

All about compatability :D

Some scenarios/systems wont work if you send more channels. Some flight sims dont work unless you go as low as 4ch! No doubt there are some tx/rx combinations out there that will have a similar issue.
Slope Soaring, FPV, and pretty much anything 'high tech'
...........if you think it should be in the wiki.. ask me for wiki access, then go add it!

And the good thing is, you can control that for every model..

eePe needs to have all sliders move since they could be being used as "virtual" channels.
But perhaps the colour for those above those output could be different?
