Q1 Can you use A123 10.8 volt battery to power Transmitter?

Q2 How should the pigtail antennas on the X8R be oriented?

Q1, Depends on the transmitter. Verify the input voltage in the manual. For sure, you will need to charge the battery with an external charger or you will burn the internal charger. You may need to adapt the battery connector.
Q2, The antennas have to be 90 degrees apart. Most people use the antenna in the transmitter pretty much horizontal, in which case, you would install both antennas horizontally.

If you can fit that in your UAV is a good idea. Check range to determine if you will have you TX antenna in an horizontal plane or in a vertical plane to obtain max RSSI.
