Printed case

Post by Peter »

Hi,

I'm building my first 3d printer, the Prusa Mendel.
And I'am thinking about printing a custom case.
Did someone already do this? Did it work? Any tips?
Does someone have a 3d model to start with?

I would love to have a printed transmitter with ersky9x + aurora 9 gimbals :-D

Thanks!

That is a hot extruder, right? Could make some neat parts. I have Solidworks 2011 if you need help doing models.
I'm working on an adaptation of a commercial case I found recently.

I would love to have one for ersky9x too. I already can see all those connections at the bottom of the board will have a problem installed in the current box. (a lot of holes to be drilled, yak) we need a box so the bottom is right next to the board. and the extra connection header should have a place on the box for easy connect too. :)
unfortunately I don't have the 3D imaging capability. Can you take pic off current box and move the bottom up and create some holes for those connector based on erskyboard spec?

Yes, that is a hot extruder. It can print abs and pla. It can print most of its own parts.
I think I will use Google Sketch up for drawing.
In the past I have used AutoCAD and 3DS Max.
Solidworks would be better though. But sketch up is free and many free models.

No, you can't take a picture and modify it. You have to draw your design in 3d.

Subscribing to thread. Love to see your design.
I'd love to see a carbon fiber case. Maybe print out the subframe support then bag carbon fiber for show.

Hey, trying to revive this tread, had same idea and it sounds good...

Idea that 3D printers are widely accessible and anybody can bring plans to local 3D printing store sounds remarkable. Somebody will go for budget with cheap plastic and somebody will pay extra for nice case.

I presume price range for custom case depends on 3D printing method but should range from 50-150$

At first:
1. plans should be in open to everybody
2. we should have Aurora gimbals 3d drawing and main board for start(to have position in case for mounting)
3. all parts should be easy accessible over ebay or shops (pots, switches...)
4. we should manage to build new Tx with no parts used from 9x
- how we can replace trims?
- how we can replace power board?
- how we can replace module board?
5. ergonomics should be good for most people
6. we can have few versions of cases (wider flat for sailguys, or smaller for 3D)

I have small experience in 3d modeling so help would be useful...

have some drawing in sketchup (this is very rough sketch) for ersky9x for start, fell free to comment and suggest...

I like the general layout. The neck strap will interfere with the visibility of the screen. Either move the screen up or add some side attachment points, is my thought.

yep, been thinking of that, but that complicates things for now, can always make holes for something like this: http://www.rokemodell.de/x-int/gb/produ ... 1127gb.htm

Thanks, I thought I had an original idea, now I see it is a stolen concept only. I'll have to see if this can be internal or if it has to be tubes along the sides.
