Oops, see another track(s) cut on front. Repair those too,

or

Just buy another module, fix the cut tracks on the mainboard, and connect black and white to tx and rx?

Buying a new one is the easier way ...
But repairing the tracks could do the trick (if you are able to ;) ).
No matter how you decide: Black wire to TX, white wire to RX of DHT.

Concerning the two cut tracks on the 9X motherbord ...
I think you can leave 'em alone. They are not necessary for 9XTreme.

That is correct.. as I said above, forget about the main board. The thing is, if we find out that the module outputs 3.3v logic level when modded, he would just have to solder the wires back on the DHT and connect them to COM2. No need to repair anything or buy another module.
Mike, you said that the 9XT processor pins are 5V tolerant, right? So, even if the logic was 5V it would work?
What about soldering some resistors between the module and COM2? as a safety measure?
Thanks

Klaus and João,

Many thanks. I'll post the outcome as I can't be the first to go from that telemetry mod to the 9xtreme.

Yes the two pins of COM2 are 5 volt tolerant. The absolute max rating is actually VDD+4.0V, so 7.3V, so normally OK to 6.0V.
They do NOT like negative voltages though, still VSS(ground)-0.3V.

OK, I'll have a go.

No need to rejoin the board at the cut points, solder connections between ports 14 and 15 on 9xtreme and the rx and tx on the module?

NOOO.. If you try to put the module as it was stock, you CANNOT connect to pins 14 and 15.. that would destroy the 9xtreme. then you connect the black telemetry wire to the pin on the side of the DHT that is the TX. You don't have the original cover but look at the picture I posted earlier..

OK
Thanks to all. You've put enormous effort into fixing this for me but I haven't a clue at this stage how to go about installing for telemetry, so easier just to buy a new module :?:
Am I right in thinking that if I buy the external module to plug in to the rear bay, I can just route the black and white wires outside and connect to the TX and RX on that module?

Thanks Mike and everyone.

One last question, I did manage to solder those cut lines on the module board, so it's black and white wires to TX and RX - not TX and RX to 14 and 15?

Thanks All, Luke

To the pins at the side of the module (Tx and Rx), correct?

Hi all,
Back again. Did the soldering and checked for continuity, all OK. I connected the black and white wires as above, but the module seems to be dead now.

Before I buy another, I found this
http://smartieparts.com/shop/index.php? ... page&id=21
which suggests there's still mods to be done to the external module, which I was going to buy, and to the back board of the 9x.
So does that mod need to be done for the internal module too if I go for that instead? Kinda sorry I started this as I had a perfectly good setup with the 9x hacked, showing full telemetry etc, now that's all gone and I'm not sure what the advantage would hve been??

Hi Joao,

No LED at the front where the bind switch is, and no beeping etc.
OK, did a bit more probing. Only 1.3v going from the back board (5v and gnd) to the module. Took 5v and Ground from the 9xtreme board, and I have it working again??

Hi Joao.
the +, -, and ppm were all taken from rear of the 5 pins that protrude through the back to connect an external module

That should work. it's the external module connection... you probably didn't enable the external module in the model setup/Protocol menu. If you don't enable it, it will not power the module.. the power to both internal and external modules is controlled by software..
5V is not enough to power the DHT.

Ah, you're right again. I had been trying the different settings (baudrate, com port etc) to see if i could get telemetry working. I literally tried all different settings and i remember changing that internal/external setting.
if i dud manage to set it up with repaired or new internal module, what are the baudrate and com port etc settings?

And if 5v isn't enought to power the knternal module, should i connect somewhere else? Battery voltage?
Once again, I am in very grateful to you

Ok, i just checked hobbyking's website. Takes 6v to 13v, I never realised that. I'm using a 9.9v LiFE so I'll connect from the battery voltage on the 9xtreme pad. I might be learning something here

Thanks again, Luke

When you enable the external module, battery voltage is switched to the power pin on the module connector.
For the DHT, set the protocol to PPM. If you have connected the black and white wires, then use COM1. The baudrate should be set automatically.

Cutting those tracks for 9Xtreme is not necessary...
Now, I am almost 100% sure that you may need to put a dab of solder on those cuts to reconnect them?

Negative.. Not necessary.. Just leave the 9x mainboard alone

The switches that were on those pins are now handled directly by the 9Xtreme.. So, nothing is really connected there apart from the 9Xtreme pogo pins :)
