Re: S1 pot doesn't center to "0"

Come on dude; you know that's not it. I'm talking about fixing a known fault in the unit, not wanting a free upgrade to the new model. I could live with spending $30-40 for the parts to fix the LCD fault "sometime soon" and live with the weak display until then. Right now it's looking like...

Re: S1 pot doesn't center to "0"

Mike - This makes me hopeful; I've sent a very detailed, polite letter to Aloft asking what knowledge re: the "Official Upgrade Path" they might be able to lay on me and what options I have at this point. I wouldn't mind being the test animal for this, but as you say... the question is now...

Re: S1 pot doesn't center to "0"

This was exactly my estimation of the situation. While those who've enjoyed the platform for over a year might find the idea of upgrading to the latest model at that cost appealing, as someone who JUST days ago bought the "Old Model" I'm less than pleased to find that my new $200 TX will v...

Re: S1 pot doesn't center to "0"

Correct, forgot that detail. When we had the old LCD on the Plus board it was before the driver was adapted to the new controller. So yes, in summary if you want the new LCD you'll also need to replace both the main and back boards, basically upgrade to a Plus. Ugggh. Is there any chance of a branc...

Re: S1 pot doesn't center to "0"

Unless you simply replace only the panel. Sent via mobile Kilrah - Have you actually taken it apart? Does the backlight assemble the same way; LED panels in the same location, only extra connections for the extra set of LEDs? I can dang sure put a switch inside or a set of jumpers in the battery bo...

Re: 9XR-PRO Hacks and Fixes

LOL.... well, I suppose... but as both TX are pretty stingy with the juice to begin with, I think we can spare the extra 40-ish ma for a readable display.

Re: Taranis charge circuit

Understood. Myself, I'd take it apart and check; if the screws need to go back, I have a bottle of Locktite Red I can use to replace the "seals". Of course, I've been voiding warranties since the Carter Administration; so maybe I'm not the best template for a "Model Customer"... ...

Re: 9XR-PRO Hacks and Fixes

Ummm... As you may know, I had issues with the LCD on my brand new 9XR Pro . Before I figured out the culprit, I got mad... mad enough that I took the money from selling my fully modded-out 9X and ordered a Taranis. When it got here, I was dumbfounded to find that the display on it was actual...

Re: taranis wont turn on

He might have done like me... I accidentally loaded the 9x FW because I didn't realize that OpenTX Companion defaulted to the 9x as the Radio Type (I'm guessing because I had an old Companion9x install on the machine) and that's the version it downloaded. After figuring out the Radio Type issue so i...

Ummm... so... do we actually have a "for reallzz" ETA on the Plus?

Cuz... I'm prolly gonna scream (IRL; I've done enough screaming online for the foreseeable future) if it comes out in like two weeks after waiting for it since Christmas. :p

Re: S1 pot doesn't center to "0"

I see the "Plus" as an available radio type in the latest Companion9x; I assumed they had it there in preparation for whenever it does finally release. Maybe it's support for the Beta testers? I'll look inside mine tomorrow; headed to bed right now. Do we have a thread dedicated to reporti...

Re: Taranis charge circuit

Just a suggestion; try removing the board and inspect the switch itself. It's a DPDT slider switch; many of these have an open structure that will allow you to look inside at the contacts and slider itself. It's not like you don't have to take the board out anyways. ;)

Re: S1 pot doesn't center to "0"

My new Model B also has nice "hydraulic" feel with detent at all 4 pots. It also centers to "Zero" on all 4 pots as well, so not gonna mess with it until I see some actual problems with calibration. Being able to select/deselect would be best, IMHO. [EDIT] Mine has a date code of...

Re: 9XR-PRO Hacks and Fixes

I'm constantly fiddling with my TX programming; I'm a tinkerer. Added to that I'm terribly nearsighted... as in without my contacts, at arm's reach my fingers are just fuzzy pink sausages. This makes bright, clear text a MUST for me. Also, if you're doing internal telemetry on the built-in screen, h...

Re: 9XR-PRO Hacks and Fixes

Because then the LEDs will dim as the battery dies, and you'll be dropping 10-11V at 40-ish ma across a 1/8w resistor at R56, oh and... as long as it lasts, it still won't be as bright as the 9XR backlight is. Replacing R56 is easier, now that I've done the R&D work. :D [EDIT] Crunching the numb...

Re: 9XR-PRO Hacks and Fixes

Mike, Brent - I'm putting together a Mod Blog based on the above material; in it I pretty much ignore the different LCD used as it's really not different enough to be a deal breaker, and I concentrate on correcting the backlight ballast resistor. I place blame for the incorrect ballast resistor on a...

Re: 9XR-PRO Hacks and Fixes

Mike - I've done some empirical testing based on my own calculations and replacing R56 with some standard resistors. At 100% a 33Ω resistor yields 52.5ma total draw @ 2.94VF; this is 10.48ma/each LED. Calculated PD with 1.868 V dropped across R56 is 0.106W. This is pretty nominal compared to the 9XR...

Re: 9XR-PRO Hacks and Fixes

On my 9XR, R71 is 150Ω, which is right on the J2 connector for the LCD backlight. R60, right next to it, is 1KΩ. It's connected to J25 which I think is the [READY!] LED.

Re: 9XR-PRO Hacks and Fixes

Mike - Yes, that's what I said. For nominal brightness, we should be driving these at 10-15ma EACH with a VF of 3-3.4V. Right now, we're driving them at 2.2ma/2.667VF each on the Pro (with brightness at 100%). The 9XR is driving the entire array at 55ma/3.007VF, (Actual measured current/VF) meaning ...

Re: 9XR-PRO Hacks and Fixes

Mike - thanks. Okay.. Then I've figured it out. You were right, the 9XR drives the LCD backlights at 11ma; but that's 11ma EACH and there's 5 of them in parallel for a total of 55ma, which is EXACTLY what I get on my 9XR from a full pack. On the Pro that's 11ma/5 = 2.2ma per LED. For this panel at a...

OK... First results are: The Pro LCD is DEFINITELY a different part from the 9XR LCD; I haven't found a part # on either LCD yet. The Backlights ARE the same part, same part #. The 9XR LCD IS pin-compatible with the Pro; swapping the 9XR LCD and Backlight into the Pro resulted in lower brightness on...

Does this mean the 9XR Pro uses an LCD that is pin-compatible with the one for the 9XR? I know the 9XR LCD is not pin-compatible with the 9x; I tried it when I got my 9XR. I was worried the reason they used this LCD was that they omitted the second connector on the Sky board for the improved LCD, an...
