To check the contents of the internal SD card and to get your firmware version you have to enter the 'RADIO SETUP' menu by long pressing the 'MENU' button. Scroll through the pages with the 'PAGE' button, you are looking for the 'SD-HC CARD' menu and the 'SYSTEM INFO' (or similar) menu.

Just download the most recent firmware. There was indeed a bug regarding DSM2 and DSMX in firmware versions above 2.0.7. This should be adressed now, thanks to Bertrand.

I do not think ripping the components of is necessary, you might try to rework the solderjoints without pulling everything apart. If you have a multimeter you can measure your component values in circuit, just unplug the PCB from your Taranis and the RF module from your PCB.

I did not think of model match being patented by Horizon Hobby. You're right, by enabling this feature for Hobbykings module you would support them in violating a patent.Horizon as the original patent holder would propably get upset about this.
