Ultimate Acceleration! 0 rpm to 3.2 million rpm in 25ms!

That is an average 130,000 rpm acceleration every 1ms for 25ms! After many many attempts for personal rpm record, I did get my record of 3.34 Mrpm on Friday (5-17-2019). I always set the scope vertical cursors to my current record (in microseconds), so I can see when I beat my personal best. I usual...

Re: High(er) resolution current sensor

You could use a unidirectional version, and lower current range to match your load (unless you need 200A, but then it doesn't make sense to have 20mA resolution). Both would increase resolution without adding parts or code change. https://www.allegromicro.com/en/Products/Current-Sensor-ICs/Fifty-To-...

Re: Problem with Inrush Current on Power Supply

More thinking, I smell smoke :) Q1 has a benign function. take out Q1 temporarily to troubleshoot the Q2 problem. Q2 fet is 30V. Test A---Reduce the input voltage to min input voltage. Then turn on and turn off. This will reduce the Vd stress on the Q2. Does Q2 blow? Without a scope capture of the t...

Re: Problem with Inrush Current on Power Supply

A quick lookup of a 78xx regulator dropout voltage graph (look up your part numbers datasheet). They also make low dropout (LDO) regulators, I have had good luck with Micrel brand. Depending on the output current and regulator temp, you can find the dropout voltage (FYI, this is the minimum voltage ...

Re: Problem with Inrush Current on Power Supply

My first guess is the issue might be when turning off, the C1, C17, might discharge back through to the main supply and somehow damage some parts. Kinda like a race condition, maybe try inserting a diode right before the C1/C17 caps to see if this fixes the issue, will have to compensate for the 0.6...

Re: Desoldering The Atmega Chip Using Chip Quik

I use two types of flux. Kester rosin rma type for all soldering but the critical stuff (bga, csp, qfn). This is semi thick and does not run all over the board when heat is applied like the the no clean types do. Its the darker brown colored stuff over the thinner lighter yellow colored stuff, it ca...

Re: Desoldering The Atmega Chip Using Chip Quik

Nope, not lack of experience. Because it was my decision. I prefer 10 times the chip quik stuff over the hot air station. Yes, chip quik is expensive, but it doesn't take longer than the hot air station if you know how to use it correctly :D :) By the way, I do believe you still need the des...

Because of your lack of experience. :D :) Witch if fine, we were just pointing out a alternative (and better imo) way. Re: Desoldering The Atmega Chip Using Chip Quik

Something is wrong if your "blowing" other components off the board. I work with 28GHz data signals, we use 0201, 01005 and 008004 size parts (tiny mofo's) and they do not blow away when swapping the part next to them. Maybe turn the after burner off? :D

Re: Rotary encoder and long wires

I am not a coder but a hardware guy. I have tried cheap rotary encoders with arduino, and they skip and multi pulse a lot more than I care for. I think better encoders (not the cheap $1 encoders I tried) will work fine, especially with correct hardware filtering (decent strong pull ups with RC filte...

Re: Want trigger my simulator interface using ir-slot sensos

Leo Bodnar has awesome PC interface joystick controllers. I built several PC sim wheel/pedals using hall sensors and his controller. He has lots of options (analog inputs / digital inputs). And with windows pc, no driver needed, all windows has joystick drivers built in.

Re: Servo Tester - Read Receiver Pulses with Arduino

I know its not in the spirit of this thread (stand alone PWM checker), but here is another way to monitor Rx signals. With the gyro you can use tethered data (usb connected) recording/display, or with the F4, it has dataflash to recorddata, including all the Rx signals, gyro, accelerometer, etc. Bla...

The beauty of the KK2 flight controller was the LCD and button interface. Setting up and dialing in the PIDs was easy at the field. Schematic attached.

Re: Servo Tester - Read Receiver Pulses with Arduino

Here is a CPPM decoder using KK2 FC hardware. KK2.1 CPPM Analyzer v1.2 This firmware can be flashed onto your KK2.1.x controller to test the output from your CPPM receiver. It will provide information like channel count, frame length and remaining frame space as well as live channel data. It even ha...

Re: Search for Replacement 9x Potentiometers!

In my first Taranis they have a op-amp circuit to shift the levels of a standard range pot. The Taranis uses 3.3V, 9x uses 5V. New version do not have this circuit because they have the custom ~60 degree rotation resistive range pots (they are 5K).

Re: Taranis LCD, no or very low contrast

Good point, I looked closer at the voltage levels. Looking at the Ti TPS5401 (U3) buck regulator, R76=29.4K R77=10.0K Vfb=0.8V Vout calc = 3.152V I measured on my good Taranis: R76=29.33K R77=9.97K Vfb=0.8 Vout calc = 3.146V. I measured my good and bad Taranis LCD voltage = 3.124V and 3.129V. ~23mV ...

More info, not solved yet. I scoped and pinned out the LCD connector. I was hoping to find an analog signal to adjust the LCD contrast (I have seen this before on a digital goto telescope (LX200GPS-14"). The LCD pin number #3 is a strange voltage, I adjusted the contrast while watching this pin...

Taranis LCD, no or very low contrast

I have a spare Taranis that developed a LCD with no or very low contrast, the back LED lights are fine. The rest of the Tx works perfectly. By lowering the brightness and increasing contrast to max, I can just read the lcd at the right angle. I bought a replacement LCD from Aloft and same. Not knowi...

Re: Convert PWM to Voltage for RSSI

I am yet to get an FrSky RX but I believe that the RSSI signal is a 1000 - 2000 microsecond pulse, once per frame. This means that you should get a 2 millisecond (max) pulse with a large (18 - 20 millisecond) gap. This would mean that the "charge pump" capacitor / resistor solution will n...

People have tried before running the APM's telemetry through the FrSky backchannel and found it way insufficient. Please provide a link showing this. I was going to try the Pro Mini method, this $2.50 board will send the 5 sensors on APM to my Taranis (from what I read), and without needing to dupl...

Are you guys familiar with this thread? It uses a $2.50 Atmega 328 board, it seems pretty simple with FrSky equipment. Any comments on this approach?
