Here is some more info about using two modules (settings with Taranis-x9d) and using the external module for telemetry (com2),

Generally, the external module reports a higher RSSI value over the internal module.
Though thinking about this ...... , it could be because the external module has more distance away from the radio's other circuitry.
Or maybe the external antenna performs better then the internal one.
It could be the combination of all the variables, like hardware, circuitry, location, weather
that have an affect on the RF signal between radio and receiver).
